No. I'm very bad at looking at links:redface:

But Russell is the kind of bloke that if he said ice was cold, I'd have to doubt it.

My point is not about individual opinion but the fact that he has a sizeable section of people who listen to him enough for his opinions to be influential. Yes I am a free thinker too...as is Russell! He strips away the conditioning most normal people are subject to and I think that is inspiring. His new film The Emperor's New Clothes is a case in point.

I realise it is easy to mock him and he, himself, knows he is vain, egocentric etc but he is moving on and trying to make a difference now. For that he should be respected - he genuinely cares about those who get a rough deal in today's society (as that film shows).

Hmm...he is sincere. Ironically enough...he does take on bankers in a major way in his new film I mentioned....(substitute a w in place of the b in that word).

He is about as sincere as the payout he got for making the video.

If one of the other lot had offered more..................

Hi Rosebay, My problem is that just because a "sizeable section of people" listen to him it doesn't make his opinions influential to the majority of the British Public. Anyone who allows a "Personaliy" or "Celebrity" influence them has, in my humble opinion, stopped being a Free Thinker and has become a Follower. The Media, while not exactly having a great opinion of him or give any weight to his views, have the ability to give him more publicity along with his own media "machine".

"Brand has received media coverage for controversies such as his dismissal from MTV, his behaviour as a presenter at various award ceremonies, and his drug use. In 2008, he resigned from the BBCfollowing prank calls he made to actor Andrew Sachs on The Russell Brand Show. He has incorporated his drug use, alcoholism, and promiscuity into his comedic material."

Not the kind of "Messiah" that I could follow I'm afraid, but each to their own and that's how it should be.

And so does Boris Johnson and a right few others across the parties. I have no idea whether he is sincere or not. Think the point is he has a lot of influence amongst a large group of his 'followers'. Doesn't matter whether you or I like him or not - he can sway people on how to vote

Dont mention Boris, a right pain.
If he ever becomes leader of the conservatives they will be in the wilderness for a hundred years.

Or just maybe after talking to him he was impressed?

When the thread about him was started a few months ago I had him down as a clown. Since then I've come to see some substance to him.
However the trouble with a man of his wealth talking out like he does is that it does hint a bit of this..........

I dont think anyone has ever been "impressed" after listening to a politician.
That's why I tend to think it was a set up from day one.

Its just a very clever publicity stunt, a non voter being swayed by a chat with the party leader, oh come on, surely we are more intelligent than that.

In the video, he comes across as totally convinced, just as long as Scotland dont get involved, and Brighton dont lose their green Caroline.

Are you sure that can happen just by having a chat, he must be more impressionable than his followers if that is the case.

Oh dear...if you really believe that then you do not know much about him. I am authentic and can see through those that are not...his sincerity is very evident. Labour is the party who he feels can listen to what he says.

I don't share your cynicism. What I feel has happened is that he has been won over i.e. that it was not a set up from day one. I admit it is
a surprising swing but Russell is very driven in his need to bring about change and, clearly, he has been persuaded that Labour will listen to him. Maybe he has been hoodwinked...who knows.

Well we can argue whether or not he should be having a 9.5 million twitter following or not but the point is that he resonates with young people something candidates must be envious of!

Yes I know of his chequered past...does that mean he is not redeemable? He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy but also someone who sincerely cares about the underdogs of our society. For that he is to be commended in my view. Power to the people, right on!
