Yes, it's open to fraud but, I think, that in some areas where they think there may be fraud they do ask for I.D.

I just walked in and quoted my voting number. :noidea:

Its all a bit quaint aint it.
My polling station is the local youth club.
Members who normally use the club are probably a bit put out by it all, as you have the group outside smoking, pushing each other around, and generally being obnoxious.

Then you get inside and find a row of 5 people, not sure what they all do, but one takes your card and reads it out loud, presumably just to prove to the other four he can read, then number three hands you two bits of paper, one yellow one white.

You then go over to a stall that looks like it was made out of stuff taken from a local skip.

Using the blunt 2in long pencil tied on the end of a 3 foot piece of hairy string you make your marks.

Then you are directed to the ballot boxes by no 5, put the yellow one in the box with the yellow sticker and the white one in the box with the white sticker she says.

Leave the building, hoping you dont get mugged on the way out.

Great fun. Why dont we do this more often:snork:

Chatting to the lady helpers there has been a 75% turn out so far, unheard of in these parts.

            I wonder if it'll go to penalties:whistle:

I feel like i should go to a polling station at some point in my life

Only ever done postal vote because to me its always made more sense that you can do it in your own time

But i have no idea what its like to go to a polling station and feel like i should

To be honest i think we should be able to vote online but since they keep going on about worries of fraud and hacking in that yet there is no security checks in place to vote in person after all these years i doubt that will happen anytime soon

You're lucky Pete, we had another one as well. " Do you want Kidderminster to have a town council" answer yes or no.

Considering we already have a borough/district council and this is going to cost an extra £60 a year I think the answer's obvious.

Quite a notable turn out at our local polling station too - certainly felt a whole lot busier than the last time we went to vote.

I agree with you @Dips - internet voting should be the default setting nowadays, with the polling stations being open for those who can't or don't want to use internet or postal votes. If I can access my bank account online securely, why can't I access my right to vote securely online? Trust me, you aren't missing much by choosing to vote by post - its generally a school hall or similar with a handful of fold out wooden booths in the middle and a picnic table or two where you collect your ballot papers; its all very makeshift really...

I've voted for just over 30 years now and this is the first time I've ever had to join a queue outside the building. It took 25 minutes.

@fat controller they talk about encouraging more young people to vote and be more involved I think being able to vote online would have quite a big impact and make it easier for people to get involved and would stir up more interest to be the first people to ever vote online for example

Not quite sure what the stoic, repressed attitude of the Polling Station staff has to do with your will to vote??:scratch: I voted today, at the local Church, and the staff were smiling, at ease and helpful. I was faced with 3 slips, one for the National vote [White], one for the Council vote [Green], and one for the Ward vote [Yellow], so I asked about the last two slips as nothing had been mentioned about them. The response was really friendly and quick with it being explained which was what. They also told me they'd been there since 6am getting ready for the 7am opening and couldn't leave the building at all until the Ballot Boxes had been collected which could be up to 1100pm, so they were there for a confined 16 hours shift. Okay, they were getting paid for it but all of them were cheerful and determined to stay neutral to any comments made to them.:dunno::coffee::snork:

I think you should give it a try as it gives you a sense of personal involvement, Dips. You don't have to take your registration card, just turn up at the local Polling Station and give them your name and address. They'll give you slips of paper with the names of the candidates and the parties for you to put your X on and then you pop them in the boxes. The staff will help you if you've got any questions.....easy.:coffee::snork:

Aren't the ward and council the same thing. They are here.
We vote for who we want to run our ward and then all the winners take their place on the council.
