I don't know whether this is ever going to happen but the Tory leader said that anyone in social housing would be given the chance to own their own homes with the Right to buy scheme like Thatchular did when she got into power.

Problem with that is that there is now a shortage of bricks due to a lot of the brick companies being closed down years ago.(Father In Law worked for London Brick Company and was made redundant in the eighties) so there is now not enough bricks being made to use in the building of the new homes that are going to be built to replace all the right to buy homes. On the telly the other night it was said that usually the brick companies have at least nine months worth of bricks in stock but are now down to three months worth and are looking to restart up some of the brick yards that were mothballed all those years ago or the building industry will have to start importing bricks from Europe because they don't build houses as quick as us so they have plenty they can ship to our country.Hope these bricks are good enough to stand up to the wear and tear of the British weather.Another one of our industries that is in trouble:sad:

Actually Cameron can cock everything up over the next five years and he won't give a stuff as he has already said that if he got in this time there won't be a third term so the voters won't have to worry about voting him out in five years time:snork:

I think what most people seem to be assuming is that a Labour government would do different.

    I doubt that.

As to the NHS, it wasn't great when they were in charge, but memories are short.
The NHS is a bottomless pit, you could throw money at it left right and centre and it would soak it up and still want more.

They train nurses, the nurses can earn more working for agencies, so they go to work for the agencies, then the agencies fit them up with jobs in the NHS.
They earn more and the agency takes a cut.

So who is actually ripping off the NHS?
And how do you stop it?

Its not something any government will alter, the NHS is a Nationalised industry, just like all those we had in the 70s.
They get ripped off by everyone, including those that work for them I'm afraid.

Hi Ian, well we here in the UK pay what we call National Insurance, of which there are different classes, and that is automatically taken out of wages earned throughout our working lives. That pays for the State Pension and some other benefits. I personally like it as it is Government controlled whereas I haven't got the liking for Insurance Pensions or medical insurance as that seems to go down the road of a less caring "if you ain't got, you don't get":dunno::coffee::snork:

Well, he's aiming to emulate her with the right to buy so he may as well emulate her by cocking everything up as well :heehee:

They left Oxford with three world class hospitals.

To be fair they train the nurses and some go off and work in the private sector. Then the agency brings nurses in from Spain and Portugal to plug the gaps. And we already have a shortage of people training for nursing in the first place.

The problem with the government system is its very basic, not only in health cover but also in pension cover.
And I dont think either is particularly "caring", you get what you pay for, or more importantly, you get what the country can afford, at the time.

I have no problem with the NHS as such, I just think its a political football, doomed to be kicked from pillar to post by successive governments, whoever happens to be in at the time.

Have started up about four different pension schemes since 1985 and each time having to scrap them due to government rules, I now given up on private pensions.
When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter who is in power, you get screwed, its just a matter of trying to work out who is going to screw you the least.

Yes, it is basic, Pete.:dunno: But from the very start it was only meant as an insurance against illness and unemployment and it wasn't until later that it was broadened to include retirement and other benefits. So it wasn't a scheme designed straight away for retirement. Lot's of things have happened to it over the decades as I can remember being told that my national insurance contributions paid for my pension. Then over the years the various Governments "tune" changed and I was told that I was paying for existing pensioners and that future contributors would be paying for mine. I admit I have several other Company Pensions but for that "crime" I'm still paying taxes:cry3::heehee:

For the NHS to survive they have to stop paying silly money to Doctors doing a night shift for around £2,000 - £2500...The NHS can not afford paying out this sort of cash..Another case that should not be happening is working people doing a hard days graft and popping into the food banks on the way home because they can't afford to feed there family..There is 1 million folk relying on food banks in this country...This should not be happening in this day and age.:nonofinger:

                Well there you go.
So what makes you think the people in council housing will move, so as to allow others to take the house, it dont happen.
The only way to get things moving is to sell the ones with tenants, then build more with the money created.

You really think that money wouldn't just disappear into the Governments coffers never to be seen again, as it did when Maggie Thatcher did the same.???:dunno::doh::scratch:
