That's the point, FC. Who would get the seats and where. It could mean Labour control over an area that voted successfully for a Conservative or visa versa, or another Party being allocated an area that didn't vote for them. There are areas where they are solidly behind one party and those area, under PR deals, could get Party that didn't even win anywhere in the region.

If I could find a country that really has Democracy I'd be buying a airline ticket. There are over 94 countries that use different forms of PR and I wouldn't live in any of them because of their form of democracy.:nonofinger::coffee::snork:

So you think its all about seats, in contrived constituencies?
And how many people vote for whatever is inconsequential ?

Sorry I don't agree with this, you have been lucky then, young couples that I have known who have bought their first house on an estate always regretted it. How does not liking estates create a "them and us" attitude??? :dunno:

No, Pete, what I'm saying is that PR would bring about deals between parties that the voters would have no say in and no power to stop whereby areas are going to get someone who probably doesn't even live in the area where they voted another party in. And yes, the constituencies are going to be contrived all of them will have to be farmed out with agreement by the parties and not by the people who voted.:snork:

You think our Government and system is corrupt at the moment, Yes?? So, we swap over to PR and the same people will be power somewhere and the actual governing engine [ie the Civil Service empire] will still be there operating in the same old remote way and in their own world way. No change in the corruption......well, there might be a little bit more.:dunno::heehee:

I think to be honest no matter what type of voting system we have there will always be people who are not happy with it, who think its corrupt or doesnt represent them and will be un happy with the result

Because at the end of the day you can not please everyone and that applies to everything in life. There will always be people for and against everything

If labour had won a majority or had gone into coallition in this election I wouldnt of been happy but would of respected thats how the country has voted

The only time i would kick up a fuss would be against extreme far right groups and groups that discriminate against certain sectors of society based on race, sexual oriantation, gender or religion etc. As much as i generally lean to right with politics i cannot stand far right politics.

Kind of sounds like it is now then.
As I say, my MP is not even known to me, I dont know their name even?

And the way the election was shaping up, it looked like we were going to get the kind of deals between parties that you are suggesting, whereby they sort something out between themselves, and sod the voters.
I dont actually want an MP as such,I just want a voting system that reflects the view of the population.
The local elections are there to provide us with someone to stick the knife in:biggrin:
MPs are just a waste of space. Whoever they might be.

So why did they buy on an estate in the first place.... Did they not do any research on the location, crime figures etc.

Them and us = " oh, I own my own house. You only live in a council house/flat on an estate.

They do, but they want a House........their own house. If they haven't got a chance of affording one else where then if the house they're living in is offered at an affordable price, and they regard it as their Home despite the location, then they will take that chance.:dunno::snork:

But then that's there own choice and they shouldn't moan about it.

We have people around here that are happy to buy a house on this estate, but once the kids get to school age they move to a posher estate, just to get the kid into a so called, better school.

It costs them thousands, but the little so and so is worth it.
Thing is, they usually end up on an estate where the houses are crammed, they are overlooked, it costs more, the garden is smaller etc.
                    But the postcode is nicer.:snork:

I am pleased that there is a growing movement of local KONP groups springing up - Keep Our NHS Public! Not sure how effective it will be with the Conservatives not addressing the privatisation issue of the NHS (whilst Labour clearly said it would halt it if it got into power)....however, being seen to do something rather than becoming a passive doormat is the way to go I feel. The NHS is the envy of the world...or was until its all to apparent, deliberate decline (being starved of sufficient funding).

Now that's where we fall over in arguments for and against things...because we tend to magnify the negative. There's probably only a minute percentage of people who buy a Council House and then moan about it but we take that small percentage, forget the majority who've bought the House because it's their home and they want to own it, and then we inflate that negative proportion to beyond the actual majority of fairly happy people who know that after a certain length of time they will finish a mortgage, have no more payments and own their house.:dunno::coffee::snork:
