Hi all, this is something I've never seen before

This is a Fuchsia Boliviana. As you can see the leaves are curling in on themselves. There are no sign of any pest or disease, apart from the shape they are perfect. The last pic is a leaf I've pulled off the plant to show the inside. They look like hollowed out canoes !!! WP_20150511_002.jpg WP_20150511_003.jpg WP_20150511_006.jpg

I would have expected some discolouration if the RSM was that bad. But on a similar theme, how much humidity are they getting?
Have you tried a higher nitrogen feed?
Finally, how much shade do they get?

RSM..... Nothing at all, I've even had my magnifying glass on them.
FEED.... A normal 3:1:1 what I always use.
SHADE... The same as all the others.
HUMIDITY... This is the one I was wondering about, although it gets the same amount of spraying as the others.

The picture below is of the plant next to it on the windowsill, it's absolutely perfect and has romped away.
I can't help but think that something is wrong with the bottle of feed ( wilkinsons own brand).
I've spoken to and sent the pics to the supplier and he's never seen anything like it. WP_20150511_009.jpg

I've just realised I've been stupid ( nothing unusual there then).

If it was the feed, wouldn't it have affected them all.... Or do different plants (within the same species) have different metabolisms ?

I wish I had those funny thingys you all use on your computers so I could find one with me pulling my hair out !!!

Possibly a calcium or magnesium deficiency ,I've just had this with some chillis and gave them a pinch of Epsom salts and it seems to be doing the trick:blue thumb:

My thoughts, for what they are worth, is that its probably down to growing conditions.

Its the kind of thing that sorts itself out once the plant gets outside, I dont think I would have any type of fuchsia on the window sill this late in the year.
Hardening off, would be my remedy, or at least my suggestion.

The healthy looking one in pic no 2 looks very soft to me.

                  Hi Pete,
The normal ones are already being hardened off ready for planting.
These are ones that live more or less indoors all year round, they usually spend just two months outside June to August as the night temps aren't high enough otherwise.

OK, so maybe I've only grown a few kinds of fuchsia, but dont most like it cool, humid, with a bit of dampness.
Main reason why I dont grow many anymore, its too dry in most summers and they dont look good until autumn, just before the first frost.

Yeah Pete that's true of most of the fuchsias we grow as they're descended from F. Magellanica from the cooler regions of Argentina.
However I also have a collection of the more tropical ones from northern South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
