The nettle population in my allotment has exploded and after many sore days, I realised that my gardening gloves are totally useless against them.

Can anyone recommend the best type to get to stop me getting stung?

Scaffolders gloves...you can get them at Screwfix. they stand up really well to nettles & brambles.

I use scaffolders type gloves made from thick material . If you can get long ones it will help.

Or use a small fork and don't put your hands anywhere near them.

I just get stung. It doesn't really hurt and if you grab the stems low down they don't sting anyway.

Wish I'd seen the bit about long sleeves earlier lol...
ended up getting normal rubber kitchen gloves worn under half waterproof garden gloves.

Worked great for my hands, not so much for my arms...

Just use a dock leaf as a poultice if it is really bugging you.

I get a lot of problems from nettle stings and they can last for over a week! So I now get someone else to get rid of them :heehee: - apart from the nettle patch left for the butterflies.

I also get skin problems with tomato leaves, courgette leaves and with conifers. So I wear gloves and long sleeves all the time when working in the garden. Fortunately, I don't need gloves when picking beans :)
