Having grown up in the boonies hunting, shooting and fishing I can say with hand on heart that fox hunting is not a means of fox control. It is however "a jolly day out what, what"! My Gramp shot more foxes in a week than the hunt butchered in several years.

Seems you wont have to wait long to see the changes. Today they were talking about reducing the amount paid in benefits to one household by some amount. Taxing the disability is next up so it seems our conversations and suspicions last week are ringing true.

Well me old mate as I say above Im nowhere near qualified to comment if hunting is good or bad. Living in the sticks as I do I can hear opinions from many on the pros and cons but as I lack the basics either set can convince me either way.

But ?????? Will they allow hunting with dogs again if they allow fox hunting ? That is quite another barrel of Thomas DeLa Titio.....

Same here, which is why I am absolutely against it. What could be more cruel than to chase an animal until it is terrified and exhausted and then let hounds tear it apart!!! I don't think that the majority of people want to see the return of this which shows just how 'out of touch' he is with 'real' people.

I could tell a really bad joke about hunting but I might get banned..

Val as I say it's a country thing. Few farmers who perhaps participate in hunting will have much compassion if he has had his stock of chickens destroyed and or the odd wee lamb taken..

Yes I think they want to reduce it from £26 000 a year to £23 000.:rolleyespink:

Thats more than I earn in a year.
So I would say, bring it on.

As to fox hunting, I dont think it has really stopped, but it was a nice idea.

As to chickens, surely its down to the owners to look after them properly and provide good strong coops for them.

OH and Woo, I like your new car, so much better than the old one.:snork:

                I totally agree Pete
I get £3692 a year to live on and then I get just over £3000 housing benefit. I wouldn't say I'm poor or rich but I don't starve and I pay all my bills.

It really annoys me when you get people who are getting various benefits of £10/20,000 sating they have to go to food banks etc

Weasels, stoats and rats were the biggest issue that Gramps had with his coop/run. Despite having a mesh floor the little barstewards would try tunnelling in first, find the mesh so chew through it anyway. Stoats were every bit as bad as foxes for going on a killing spree. He trapped two after a particularly nasty slaughtering.

I forgot to say, I can't work because of my health but previously I had worked for 32 years and never claimed for any unemployment or any other kind of benefit.

I can only speak from personal experience ... a fox caught hold of one of my chickens, in broad daylight, mere feet away from me! Not sure who was more shocked: the hen, me or the fox when I saw him and ran after the perisher (who then dropped the hen in mid flight!) shouting "GRRRRRR!!" as loudly (and fiercely) as I could muster

One foxy got his own back though because a year ago they got my ducks: all of them in one swoop! And yes, I believed they *were* secure and safe from foxy - just goes to show how foxy got his reputation for being "crafty".

It always makes me laugh when the 'toffs' say that it helps keep down the numbers (foxes), like they care! All they're interested in is a jolly good time and with luck, some blood spilt. Barbaric.

Have they actually mentioned fox hunting then? I thought that was merely a discussion point amongst ourselves......
