Seems a very low offer ?

Farmland is around £10k/acre so a realistic offer would be £5m just for starters. You could multiply that by 100+ if it was development land - making it worth £5,000m, so no wonder he turned it down.

The farmer that sold the land to Mc Alpines that our new village is built on kicked the bucket before he had a chance to cash the cheque:ouch1:

A Sussex farmer has rejected an offer of about £275m for his land from developers seeking to build a new town.
@JWK it's £275 million not £2 million, Ithink the link has been updated

Fair play to the farmer sticking to his guns.. Just as well he wasn't offered a lot of money or he might have caved in eh ?:biggrin:

Sad inescapable fact is they will just build elsewhere.

I hate how developers are destroying the landscape right across the UK. It's hardly like future generations will look back fondly on the flaming awful crap being built today and planners should wake up to the responsibility they have to protect the landscape.....

I find it all a bit strange.
Even here on GC, we are in one thread debating the housing shortage, and in another hoping they dont ruin the countryside.

I'm on the side of the countryside, but unless they tackle population increase, you might as well just give in.

Looking from my neck of the woods we have both, town cramming and country side loss, so, where does that leave us.
Up the creek, without a paddle?

Up the creek without a paddle indeed Pete. Perhaps due consideration should be given to control the amount of boats in the creek ?
