Its me again with more questions.

I am a little concerned that I am growing some amazing looking greenery but there is a shortage of flowering happening.

I keep reading about flowers, fruit etc yet other than my strawberries nothing else is flowering - potatoes, courgettes, cuc, sweetcorn, peppers, chilli. Have I sown too early or too late? Have I not kept them warm enough? Do they need feeding?

The list of things I am growing or about to sow is huge. Small ish quantities of lots of variety.

So far just varying sizes and shapes of green stalks and leaves.

Thanks again. Your advice and comments go along way to keeping me sane!!!!!

Much too early for flowers yet, be patient and when reading try to find info that states when things flower, for example Potatoes will not flower for at least 11-12 weeks for first earlies, longer for main crop.

Strawberries is about the only thing that will flower this time of the year, everything else is much much later.

What about feed? Should I be considering it and on what veg/fruit? Is there a timeframe after sowing that things should be fed.

I always think of feeding as a kind of a "feeling", gardeners get this sixth sense by just looking at a plant, knowing about it and the ground that it is in. I appreciate that your a newbie and such things take time, but it will come.

At this stage of the year when things are planted, you will have planted into manured/composted/fertilised ground anyway, so plants should not really need feeding. However, there are occasions when a plant might not look quite as healthy as you think it should, and a quick feed can "pep" them up and get them going again.

In spring you want the plants to grow big and strong, so all that growth needs a nitrogen rich feed, later, as the plants start to flower and produce veg or fruit, that is the time to switch to a potash based feed such as tomato feed.

From your list above courgettes and Sweetcorn are the heavy feeders, that may require a feed. But will probably be ok.

I feed my soil in Spring then don't really feed until the plants start to produce the actual fruit and veg. I use Blood fish and bone raked into the top few inches of soil.

You could take some photo's and post them here and we would have a clearer idea of what is going on and advise.

Just to add what Steve says, Potatoes don't always flower - it depends on the variety and the weather and growing conditions.

What varieties and when planted? First earlies are 10 weeks min from planting.

The technical term is 'furtle' :)

Those Javelin should be ready around now. Make sure they are well watered and give them a liquid feed, something like a tomato feed (Tomorite or similar). If you want to eat some now feel gently around the roots to see if there are any tubers (furtling :)), they will be just under the surface. Obviously they tend to be small at this stage, leave them a week or two and they get bigger, your preference but I think they are much nicer when small :blue thumb:

Going to give them a feed tomorrow. Am I just feeding the Javelins or do they all get a feed. How long after a feed can I eat them? Can I just pull up one, two, three individual potatoes or however many I want? Or do I have to harvest the entire bag?
