Acer tree

    Looking at the below photos does the tree look healthy as I'm not sure about the long thin branches without any leaves yet

      It looks like a simple case of pruning back a little, i.e. where the tops are darker brown - to go back to a lighter brown point which appears to be a healthier section. That is just me noticing what appears obvious but I am not an expert.

        This is my first tree, can I prune them back now?

          any other help on this people, i am ready to prune it but would like to hear from some acer keepers?

            Has got die back from somewhere,i prune trees this time of year some things like plum your suppose to to avoid silver leaf,clean the cutters with something like jays fluid to avoid infecting it with something,leave wounds open to self heal
            ps the dog chews an acer it survives

                Hi

                Like on this tree where the branches have died , but the other part are still alive , and its looks very unsightly

                your acer to keep it in balance cut down to a healthy bud if you can wont do any harm

                    depending on the variety of acer they can send out long shoots and they just don't produce enough leaves the following year , cut just above a bud , not halfway along as that will encourage die back
                    It looks like it is in a exposed spot with wind and sun so during a dry week make sure you water as this is what may happened to yours just as it was coming back into growth
