My young Clerodendrum ugandense cutting which was in the greenhouse during the big freeze is coming back from the roots.................

 

should be covered in leaves by now

 

I know thats why im worried

But its not dead so im confused

 

If I remember you planted last year or early this year and its a blue one ? after you painted the wooden frame , have you looked closer at the base and give that a tiny scratch just to see ? and I mean a tiny scratch as it sounds like a root problem

 

I think you are confusing my two wisterias which im amazed you remembered some details.

So for clarification i planted a wisteria floribunda snow showers this year for my pergola that one seems happy



My amethyst falls i planted around this time last year but could of been more juneish and its a purple one and looked like this





It now looks like this



Gave it a scratch is green underneath



And it has one bit of green

The bark doesn't look happy tho there is a lot of peeling

 

@Dips at least you have a bud starting , I wonder what happened to that then as it looked great to start off with , how could I forget your lovely blue pagoda

do you reckon a feed my help it?

I was wondering should i cut it back a bit to see if that might help as well?

 

I wouldn't feed as it would have no effect and if the roots are compromised it may make it worse , if me I would cut back to just above the new shoots and just leave it be and see what happens

the rose arch(so called) that has my wisteria on, I had originally had one planted either side and two years later one of them just died , you just dont know whats going on in the ground.

I know we have a new problem with Wisteria , a scale insect thats on the increase brought over from Asia so keep a eye on the other one you have.

@Spruce I just looked up wisteria problems on the rhs and noticed that insect luckily no signs of that at the mo

i blame my mates dad he came round and said oooh a wisteria i have tried to grow them several times but each one died over winter so i hope yours doesnt

he fully jinxed me lol

 

Did it get frosted?
They do tend to suffer if the flowers have formed and it gets a frost on it.

 

Nope nothing had actually formed just small silvery buds a bit like how an apple tree does way before it blooms or flowers

Also i dont think we have had any bad frosts its been mild all winter barely anything

 

so it formed the flower buds, what happened, did they drop off?

 

They were tiny and they are still there they have just kind of dried and shiveled up and dissintergrated. There are still some but they havent done anything

 

Thought I'd lost my Oxalis deppei. I hung on hoping that there would be some movement as I'd read that they can be late to show themselves. I'd given them til this weekend and lo and behold I spotted some growth today.
