Pet friendly weedkiller.

Good morning all.

Can you recommend a powerful weedkiller for a pet household. I am falling mercy to ground elder, brambles and untold other weeds. I've had a couple of *gardening light* years as we're doing much needed house renovations and improvements, but alas my garden has suffered greatly for it. If anyone can offer advice on weedkillers would be much appreciated.

Also, I've not posted on here for such a while, but I still try to pop in and read. My poor garden has hardly had any work done in the last year, and I fear this year is going to be the same too. Doing up an old house is so time consuming! I've told hub, that under NO circumstances are we undertaking major works next year, as I really, REALLY need to do some serious landscaping to the garden.

An ex-member of this forum who ran a pub said he used salt. As a person who also dislikes chemicals due to my cats I tried it on our gravel and it worked! I buy it in kilo bags for about 20 cents. Put it down and hose it in. Alternately dilute it first.

I also use washing up liquid in a spray bottle of water to eliminate greenfly and ants.

Thanks for that info Victoria, I may try the bleach method before I resort to weedkiller.

have you any old carpets that you could use to smoother the areas that are a problem ?

 

Sadly not @Spruce I know that method works, as it's what my father used to use on the veg plot in the garden, when I was growing up. I do have a lot of cardboard though, as we've just taken delivery of our new bathroom suite. So I might try the bleach and then cover it with all the packaging.

 

I use boiling water on weeds as long as there are no other plants tou wsnt to keep near by

I wouldnt use bleach if i was you only because i had a cat that the vet suspecred had drunk some bleach and had blisters on the top of his mouth

She said its really common if people pour water away with bleach in and a cat drinks it or they use it in the garden it leave it out etc

 

Oh, I didn't know that @Dips. I do indeed have cats, so I'm very greatful for that info. x There are no plants in the areas that I need to treat, as they'll be turned into new borders and lawned areas next year. Thanks again for that info. xx

This area of mine had dandelions nettles and grasses.I fenced it off temporarily to keep the dogs off for 3 days and sprayed it just the once...
I can highly recommend this product but don't expect dead weeds within days...the after picture was taken four weeks later. I'm spreading topsoil over this now and turfing.
