Horticultural 'goof-ups'

In my gardening youth, I was taken by a pretty little white flowered allium - it said 'good for naturalising'
Ooh lovely I thought and proceeded to purchase a bag of bulbs......14 years later I am still trying to get rid of them...grrrr!

Oh and once when pregnant, I asked my husband to do some pruning - think Mad Max with a hedge trimmer!

Blue bells are a bit like this, I have lots brought in because they looked nice. We all live and learn

 

Actually this is a really good thread, 2 of our worst 'goof ups' were planting bamboo and mint in the ground!!!!

 

I introduced a tall white Aster, can't remember the variety but it took me 3 years to get rd of it from most of the garden and even now (I think it's 7 years later) I still pull the odd one up every June.

 

I've got two too.....One's Calystegia It's a double-pink-flowered bindweed that Beth Chatto very kindly distributed through her nursery in Essex. Silly woman! It's just as invasive as the common variety.
The other is Jabarosa which might have pretty scented white flowers but also has all the instincts of a world-dominating maniac. It laughs at Round-Up

 

I fell for the confidence trick which is Roses and planted a fair number. I am in the process of removing the last of these insect-ridden, fungal prone monstrosities.

 

Montbretia, Euphorbias and Bluebells! My worst nightmare and not introduced into my garden by me which makes it worse.

 

Oxalis Corniculata, don't know what planet it came from but I'd love to send it back. Don't even know where it came from but I suspect it's something to do with the seedpods which burst and travel at the speed of Concorde.

 

Oh guys, if only we knew all this before we were seduced into buying the darn plants!

Roses - fab flower (only for 3/52 weeks) be prepared to look after a sickly relative for the other 49 weeks

 

And don't forget the Tetanus infected thorns.!
Anemone x hybrida is another goof up. Not mine though, but now in the 6th year of weed killer on one patch.

 

Taking note of some of these,sounds like they will survive seem to fail with any thing that resembles a flower

 

When I was 17, I knew next to nothing about gardening, I couldnt have told you the names of even the most common bedding plants. Things are different now though and I look back on one particular moment with regret.

So, when I was 18 and had my first job, I decided to do something nice for my mum. Her former partner had built some raised beds and an arch but no plants. So, I set out to a flower shop nearby that also sold a range of plants. Picked up the usual, Lobelia, Petunia, Pelargoniums and for the Arch, a couple of Russian Vines!

The Russian Vines were fine the first year, but they quickly got out of hand, it was like something from the Addams family. I tried and failed to get rid of them, they just didnt want to die.

NEVER EVER buy one, they should be illegal to sell.

 

And Mr C - you really really don't want some of these plants, especially Russian Vine that would have survived Chernobyl unscathed!

 

Hi plantplots in my situation the new plant would have to survive was hoping for a sunny day to explain but it rained,haven't googled russian vine but if thats the big vine with purple flowers
it failed managed to get into its 2nd year then passed
