what type of paint?

Hey everyone Im planning to turn these wine boxes



into shelves to go above my desk for all my business cards, pen pots, parcel tape etc etc



Now I want to paint the outside black and the inside a colour. What is the best type of paint to use and which will be the most hard wearing. Also will i have to put a top coat on at all?

Im hoping someone DIY savvy will know and be able to advise please. You all seem so knowledgable on stuff like this.

 

I think they look great unpainted . Just rub a clear oil finish in ,and keep the natural wood with he Wine Logo on it.

 

I would but it wouldn't go with the rest of the room thats the problem and would look really odd and out of place unfortunately

 

I think matt would be best

would a chalk paint be good for that?

 

We rescued about six of these after my neighbour chucked them in the skip he had on his drive and as they were all in good condition asked him if we could have them and he said yes so Mr Kandy has stacked them up in the garage one on top of the other and I use them to store my kitchen cleaning stuff and boxes of cat food when they are all on offer

I personally like them in their natural state but as you say Dips they won't go with the colours of your room.How about white on the inside and then the black colour on the outside and back as at least the White will reflect the light and will show off whatever you put on the inside.

Mr Kandy says to go to places like B&Q and ask their advice for what paint to use for wood but make sure you don't get a paint for walls or ceilings.He says you need a paint that has primer sealer in it as well.

 

Ah yeh fat controller im moo poo at doing thin coats being a heavy handed sod and me and rollers are a nightmare

hmmm what about if i just sprayed them a nice grey with spray paint would that be good enough?

That's easy Dips , just change the rest of your room to match the wine boxes. I'm sure Laurence Llewelyn Bowen would do that !

 

I never primed the picture rails to be honest just sprayed them and have seemed to last but you see all the grain in them at the same time

 

hmmmmm see now i dont know

i wouldn't mind getting them so they are not too dissimilar to my kitchen worktops actually. that may looks better than more black stuff



but that may be completely impossible lol
