Very cold winds at that. A garden I do on the coast has hundreds of native whips planted. All the new growth has been knocked right back and turned brown, they are going to have to start again. :thud:

I was given a 'blowaway' and used it for one year and binned it. More trouble then they are worth. And thats not much!

I live in Hull,East Yorkshire quite near the Humber and its always windy,im really fed up of it now too,as regards those temporary greenhouses,I had a walk in type a few years back n found the best way to stop it blowing away is to guy it down at front and back, and have tent pegs n guy ropes over it,just throw the rope over the roof and guy it down each side, very secure and never any problems blowing away, eventually he wind will rip the seams and you dont get many years out of em but theyre lots of fun

I'm absolutely devastated :( we had a huge hail storm this evening and its shredded everything! Cannas, hostas, rudbeckia, dahlias, nasturtiums - all the things I've grown from seed. All that time looking after them :(

Sorry man, that's awful. Maybe some of them will bounce back. My dahlias were torn up by hail a few days ago and it's the first time I've ever had my own garden. Nurtured them in my living room by the window for weeks.

Yeah, I'm sure some will :) coming home to find that last night was not good. Just when you think you've protected the hostas from slugs, along comes the hail to shoot bullet holes in the leaves.

It's mainly the rudbeckia seedlings I'm not worried about as it seems to have just shot most of their leaves clean off!

                Stupid British weather :D

We always get hail stones here in Liverpool in mid May. Thankfully this year I managed not to come a cropper but I can't say the same for the last two years. My toms took a battering last year but did recover so I reckon your plants will be ok Jack. :blue thumb:

If we took out all the truly none native plants, then were left with the rest, we'd have a few wildflowers and a few pockets of heather.. for that very reason.. the wind! :snork:

If it's any consolation (which it probably isn't) really annoying weather is not unique to the UK. I was tempted to plant out my sweetcorn in the searing heat of last week, but thought better of it, knowing that the weather here can be, at best, unpredictable. So it's sitting on a south facing window, shivering in the 13ÂșC we've had all this week. We had the hail a couple of weeks ago:gaah:. Thank goodness I didn't sow my beans or tomatoes too early!
These cold spells in late spring seem to have been happening regularly here, at least for the last four or five years.

Good morning all.I am not going to make a list of why the wind is anything but stupid its our friend,it dries our washing, gives us energy in the form of Turbines,as our good friend @stephenprudence says it helps with sow our seeds, and sometimes even stops it raining,
and on a hot scorching day a gently breeze is most welcome and don't forget the defeat of the Spanish Armada and all sailing ships over the years ie Christopher Columbus ect, with out the wind we would still believe the earth was flat:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

(@Fern4), hail stones are very rare except in Liverpool every May:heehee:
