When I go shopping for a car silver isn't even on the list and green is at the bottom of it. When silver cars start to age or get damaged, any repairs to the bodywork always looks a complete mess, the paint never seems to match up properly. Green cars because I won't buy anything green, no I'm not superstitious, but the colour has 'followed' me all my life. The strange thing is if I go into a shop and ask for something that is produced in all colours I'm nearly always offered the green one first and it drives me nuts!:)

Oh, I thought you were just dreaming FC. Well, it's a nice looking motor, rather posh for a commoner like me of course. I was thinking it would slick in black (tough a begger to keep clean).

The silver colour and visibility thing ... I think most of the neutral metallicy colour cars are the least visible, red and white the most stand out colours on the road. But I'm supposing with DRLs pretty much standard these days, does it count for much? I'm from the school of low beams on at all times day or night (my Scandi blood and throw back to a country I used to live in). What type of Audi is that?

Aye, that one has LED DRL's and automatic bi-xenon lights, so you wouldn't miss it coming I suppose. I am toying between one like that (which is the 'want' car) or something that is as near to new as dammit (Insignia, Mondeo, Octavia etc) which would be the 'semi-sensible' choice.

        The crazy thing is that I can buy a 3 year old Audi or a 12 month old Vauxhall for similar money, yet in three years time the Audi with a lot more miles on it will be worth more than the Vauxhall with not a lot of miles on it;

        EDIT - it is an A6 Avant S-Line 2.0TDI

I don't think it makes a lot of difference what colour you have FC. If you are driving under trees on a dull day a darker colour will disappear into the gloom. I think choice of colour is more likely to be down to practicality or just colour preference. :)

Don't know if you saw The Bridge on TV - Scandi crime drama, top telly. Well this was one of the detective's cars ... oooh how I drooled ....... now that is something a bit special.

Never heard of it I'm afraid, and sorry to say that I never really 'got' the souped up Beetles :snork:

Very 70's paint job on that one too.

Believe it or not, red seems to be my unlucky car colour - every one I have had has either been a mechanical nightmare or been accident prone (usually being hit by other people)

As you say, top TV :blue thumb:

Then you clearly never had the delight of driving an early eighties 3.3 turbo model. With turbo lag of truly epic proportions it meant that the power delivery was far from a nice smooth curve - it was more like pop, bang, fart and then lighting the afterburners! To drive one fast across country took gonads the size of Jupiter :heehee: That is without mentioning the understeer/snap oversteer handling! Quite simple one of the best laughs it was ever possible to have on four wheels. Did I mentioned the brakes that faded to nothing after a handful of hard uses? :yikes:

Other half and I have owned about twenty five different cars down the years but have only got pictures of a few.

Well, it won't be the silver one - it has apparently already found a new home; the search continues.......

Aww never mind FC, though do you think it is quite you? I imagined you going for something rather different.

@longk - speaking of marvellous TV are you watching 1864? What think you?

I wasn't sure about the colour of that one to be honest, and the mileage was a tad higher than I would have liked also. The model of car is what I have my heart set on though - basically a slightly bigger version of the one I have now.

As a matter of curiosity, what sort of thing did you see me going for?

Silver is great if you are lazy when it comes to washing it
It doesn't show the dirt as much :blue thumb:
My last 4 cars have been silver/silver grey.
Maybe white is popular in Spain because it reflects the heat?? :noidea:

I must admit to having owned well over a hundred cars over forty years driving.
Grew up on fast Fords like Capri 3.0 and 2.8 RS Turbo escorts and a beautiful black RS 500 Sierra Cosworth. Many Jaguars a few TVRs and so many daft cars..
Sad thing is I took hardly any pictures. Mm mm

I've been a true petrol head since I was a wee boy and still love cars just as much today as when I was lad..
