What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

I can relate to that though. Been struggling with a headcold all week, and cutting the grass yesterday just about finished me...

Today I've hung out some washing, talked to the bumbles in the green nestbox, planted some petunias, osteospernu... Um, Cape daisies (!!) and a tumbling Tom tomato. Trimmed the edge of the grass around the patio, put a string from the top of my twisty cane to a drainpipe, so that my Henrii clematis and jasminum officinale can go a little higher, then quickly got the washing back in as I thought a storm was about to hit. I hope we do get some rain today, otherwise I have an hour's watering to do later!!

 

filling the fountains with water, and getting them started. Traveling to Groff's Plant farm to buy some plants. Taking some plants outside to the deck. Re-potting plants, transplanting seedlings to cute pots. Pulling some weeds. Doing laundry, going to the dry cleaners to pick up closes, buying wine, figuring out what is for dinner. And sitting here. have a good day all.

 

...the rain didn't come, so done the watering.

 

Took my first steps into the world of irrigation today. Threading a seep hose through the main bed. In practice it was very simple but feeling very proud of myself!

Otherwise I've been painting on wood protector to a fence project I'm working on.

went to b&q bought a 40mm pipe. cut it into small segments. stuck copper tape round them. These are prepared for my tomatoes. too many slugs and snails in the garden. The plan is to plant the tomato seedlings through these. btw: the main stem of a tomato plant won't grow thicker than 40mm, will it?...

 

lucky you! I lost my melon seedlings on day one. sweet corns survived them but not in good shapes. They even munched some of my onions and garlic chives. and strawberries, oh my strawberries. the evening before last, I watched one huge slug dragging a red strawberry out of the net. crazy.

 

Removed all the brown fronds from the treeferns

Started moving the big and heavy things out of the greenhouse - Ive lost about a foot off the top of this brugmansia but it seems to be coming back to life:

I also thought I had lost this banana but it seems to be recovering - possibly I need to turn the heat up a bit in the winter ..

No such problem for Musella lasiocarpa, but it didnt do much last year other than throw out lots of pups, so Im really not sure what to do with it - hopefully it will flower this year & I can wheel it out the front to impress the passers by.

Gave everything a high nitrogen feed, planing to plant up the last of the veg for the greenhouse & maybe some more outside if I feel brave. I also had an accident taking the glass coffee pot apart to go in the dishwasher.. I still have all my fingers but theres a certain amount of blood on the floor in the kitchen that needs mopping up.

 

Cleared and planted up another bed at the foot of the big rose/honeysuckle/Virginia creeper combo we have. Put in some sunflowers, young foxgloves and 50p salvia from b&q clearance.
Had the "other" grandparents over today and he spent all day saying my garden is too full and then proceeded to put brushwood weed killer on things he didn't like, such as a lovely periwinkle growing at the base of the apple tree. Meh.

 

I've moved all my young annuals out of the greenhouse for the last of their hardening off, hopefully they'll be in the ground next week. My tomato plants have decided to start growing again having stalled for three weeks and they are now potted on to their final positions in buckets in the greenhouse.

 

Hi, today was lettuce duty. My oh complains that we spend so much on it.(I think I've gone a bit ott)
