Hi, I have discovered a fast growing weed in my lawn. It's taking over and appears to grow from single points and thread itself through the lawn. Pic attached. Anyone know what it is and how to get rid if it?

    Thanks. WP_20150528_008.jpg WP_20150528_004.jpg

Is it bindweed? If it's bindweed it'll twist around things like grass stems and grow roots from the stem. Bindweed spread vegetatively, which means that the points coming out of the ground are stronger and faster growing than if it's from seeds.

It's difficult to see the shape of the leaves from your photos, it could well be bindweed. Regular mowing will sort it out.

I thought bindweed, but it's not the same. I follow the leaves and stalk back to the root and try and pull it out. Leaves a nasty bald patch.

Thanks for replies. Can anyone recommend an effective weed killer for grassed areas, without it harming the grass?
        Thanks.

Could it be Common Enchanter's Nightshade or Alpine Enchanter's Nightshade

It's not Enchanters Nightshade, do you have a lilac tree nearby? It could be a sucker from that.

All the Lawn Weed (and Feed) type products will sort out broadleaved weeds like yours above with harming grass - the active ingredient is 2-4-D mecroprop - so look for that on the box.

Not sure, the leaves on my weed are more rounded and broader.
