Caught in the act!

    Well thats the second sunflower gone. I have four left so fingers crossed i end up with at least one plant left

    Slugs dont normal have big holes in them do they? Anyone know why this one has?

    Not that it matters its been salted to death now

      If it was me, I would be getting out the salt in a plastic bag.

        I gave my son in law some cosmos and they were bitten off 4" up . Why do they do that, why not eat it at ground level ? Why the big hole ? 'orrible things slugs !

          Oh its annoying isnt it! Surely its more ener to climb up and eat

          The big hole is weird isnt it? Fully not normal. Dont think i have even seen inside a slug before

          Sunflowers 2 slugs 6. Am expecting a large body count this year. It's just so wet don't have enough hours out slug collecting ahem.

            Wonder why this is the first one i have actually seen on a slug.

            Maybe this slugs ones is particularly large

              I put salt in a plastic bag, and go and collect slugs and they melt in the salt,

                Fully following now lol

                Its was the plastic bag that threw me

                I pile them all up in the corner of the garden and then salt them that way

                  I usually just stamp on them, messy but quick.
                  I hate to kill anything slowly,( I can think of a few human beings that I might), that is just trying to survive.:smile:

                    this is going to sound stupid but i have never successful stamped on a slug lol I have tried but didnt work no idea why

                    i do stamp on snails tho but salt slugs. I do feel bad but didnt with this one he was asking for it

                      Yep, I must admit I do use organic slug pellets, so not really that slug friendly a person.

                      But once caught, either cut in half or stamped on, on concrete, saves salt and is pretty efficient.

                      Good afternoon I always pick my slugs up and throw them in to next doors Garden:heehee:


                      The Hole is the breathing hole
                      Adults lay egg masses in moist soil, or under rocks or containers, or garden debris. Eggs hatch in 2 to 4 weeks. Slugs grow for 5 months up to 2 years before reaching maturity; snails take 2 years to reach maturity.

                        Just took your advice as i could not be bothered to go fetch the salt so i speared a slug with my hand fork. I seriously feel like a massive bitch right now lol

                        I dont know why and i dont know why i feel
                        Nothing if i salt them. Proper odd

                          I've found them dead after chewing thru bracken stems in the same way. Died while they were eating it :yikes:
