Any advice please for my droopy Yucca?

Hi - I wonder if anyone is able to assist re. my Yucca plant. Pics attached.

It seems to be in reasonable health apart from the leaves are so droopy. I didn't used to be like this. Do you think this is is due to over or

under-watering, or insufficient sun? Also, what should I do (if anything) about these new sprouts appearing from the soil next to the trunk?...

 

i have no idea about this type of plant

but have you fed it at all or topped up the soil so its got new nutrients?

 

My thoughts are that the top part is dying.
That could be the reason for the new shoots at the bottom.

Overwatering and bad light are the usual cause of death in houseplant Yuccas.

Barring of course the Chinese takeaways, who stick them in the window and never water them.

 

No, there is no standing water. I read that over-watering is a common problem with these so i water it rarely now. It just doesn't seem to be perking up as much as I would like.

 

How long has it been like this ? I would personally not water it anymore until the top 2" of compost have dried out and see if this helps.

As to the shoots coming from the base that is just the plant naturally spreading. You can either leave these on and end up with a little clump or let them grow a little larger and detach them and use ad cuttings.

 

thanks for your response. well it went downhill over the last autumn/winter period. I think it has recovered a tiny bit since then but clearly it's not as it should be...

Also, I forgot to say.... How far away from a window is it ? It really needs to be in as much light as possible.

 

it's usually right by a decent size window that gets sun in the mornings (not where it is in the pictures). However i think i might start putting it outside during the daytime to see if that will help?...

 

They love being outside but I'm not sure it's quite warm enough yet. Mine usually goes out in about a months time.
I think for now I'd leave it in a bright sunny window.

 

When I had my Yucca I used to never water it, but whenever I did the leaves would turn pale green/yellow like in your photos.

 

Someone should have told my house Yucca that.

It was looking a tad unhealthy one year so I put it outside (had visitors coming and didn't want them to see it like that ) ... and promptly forgot about it until the following Spring!
And yes, we had snow that winter too Now, I'm not recommending anyone put their Yucca out through snow time ... but, this time of year I would say is quite warm enough (they are tough old boots, yuccas)

 

My Yucca is still going, it was so tiny when my ex-FIL brought it for me a as a cheer up pressie (suffering dreadful morning sickness)

It was totally neglected for period's of time, knocked over numinous times either by my toddlers pulling on the pot to stand, run into by various trikes, bikes a toy peddle cars.... Had several hair cuts aided by oldest daughter

Yet it survived kept on growing....... Sadly I didn't have room for it when I divorced so enforced to leave it at my estrange husbands, who shifted it to his girlfriends house. I don't know if it's still there last time I saw it was several years ago when dropping off the kids... Then it stood almost to the ceiling in their hall!

It was the only indoor plant I never managed to kill... I may have a garden full of plants but alas not one plant inside.... I have a rather serious track record of killing in door plants, even catatis aren't safe in my hands...

 

I planted my one out this spring.
It will have to take its chances next winter.
It did survive last winter in its pot, outside, with just a bit of fleece on cold nights.
