    ... Ant!? :noidea:

For the first year I've been there, ants were very much present at Shiney's. A couple of us commented on it.

Came home and, blow me down, every time I touch a pot, or soil, or anything in the garden ... ants!

Fair enough, this is my first May/June in this property ... but, this year does seem to be one where ants are in abundance.

    Anyone else noticed?

I was getting excited then, I thought you meant it was my year :)

Seriously though, yeah, I've noticed a lot more than usual as well.

Nothing more satisfying that watering your pots and seeing the resident ants legging it from their unwanted nest in your roots !

Yes, I have noticed it too - - when I lifted the slabs that were the path up the middle of the lawn last week, nearly every single one had an huge ant nest underneath and me lifting the slabs sent the ants scurrying about trying to push all the eggs (which were bigger than the adult ants themselves ) into wee holes to take them underground. There were more than just one type of ant too - we had at least three different colours.

Worst of it is, I didn't have any ant powder to put down, so they are now buried under the new turf, so I hope they don't do any damage to the roots

I have one of those 'eco' kettle things that only boils what you need (draws it up by pump from an integral, filtered tank) - not so easy to get a litre and a half of boiling water from it and carry out to the garden

That's a bit technical for me. How does it know what you need ?

There is a wee dial that you use to select the amount needed - 240ml is the normal setting for ours, which is a decent mug size.

You can even tell it what temp you want - so 100 degrees for tea or 95 for coffee

                      Damages the roots though ;)

Good! It would damage the roots :rolleyespink:

Can you also tell it: please don't damage the roots? No? Best not then: it would damage your roots
