    Well, when I started work, around 500BC, we were told that we were paying for our pensions, then somewhere along the line they told us we were paying for the pensions of those already receiving them.

    Yep, don't worry Anthony, I realised that.:thumbsup::snork:.

    If you both take a step back, both of you are really agreeing with each other and saying the same thing. There must be a level of income where it can be said/agreed that a person is unable to contribute to paying Council Rates. Perhaps even then it should only be a certain percentage of income. The Government plays with figures and bottom lines with taxes and other contributions and you can bet they are not the losers on the deal.....they give in one hand and take more with the other:wallbanging:

      I think if you get Council Tax Support does not matter if you have a private pension or not. It is all to do with how much money you got coming into the home. This would include state & private pensions + any other income. Very complicated but any money you have over £10,000 in banks,isa ,cash at home! etc counts as £1 a week interest every £500 ,we wish.
      The max capital you can have is £16,000,anything over and no help,but there is always pension credit. Even if you have £15,999.50 total you will get help ,£16,000.50 no help.
      This is just general and only what I have picked up from reading ,more complicated in the flesh.
      There are plenty of calculators on web you can fill in without putting in any personal details to see if you are entitled to anything. Played around with these things for hours.

      Would this query re single person occupancy vary depending on your borough? I'm not sure

      No, Lynda, as far as I am aware there was legislation to pass a Bill under the Benefits Act and so all single persons living alone are entitled to the discount. I'm not too sure about Scotland as it has it's own laws and procedures but no doubt they would not shun it.
