Just moved post - put it in wrong section again
I just wondered how everyone's clematis are performing so far in this chilly year ? I have some that are growing as well as last year , but 3 are struggling.............
Niobe (type 3 ) about two thirds the flowers
Mrs Cholmondeley (type 2 ) very poor flowering
Margret Hunt (Type 3 ) currently grown to 2 feet - should be nearly 6 feet by now.

All are in different locations and are facing east west or south . They are all about 10 years old. Anyone else having probs ? How long does a clematis last, are they past the best before date ?

    TIA

The answer to that, Harry, is indefinitely:hapydancsmil: There is a Clematis Montana at Hill of Tarvit in Fife that is over 80 years old:old:.......and still going strong!!

I had around 112 Clematis of different varieties last year but find this year I have around 128...[must have blacked out and gone buying again:doh:]. They're growing in shrubs, roses, my Acer Brilliantissimum, the Lilac "Madame Lemoine", the Jasmine Hedge by the pond, the Arbour and either side of the Trellis Entrance to the garden. I think the cold, dull start to Spring hasn't helped but the Armandii variety have done well, as have the Montana's, Mrs George Jackman. I think we only need a short period of warm weather to encourage the others to speed up.:coffee::snork:

My "Elsa Spath" is positively loving life and blooming her socks off. She is still in the same pot that I put her into as a small piece from Morrisons back in February 2013. She is facing a westerly direction and looking the best I've ever seen her.
