Ok so many of you will probably think this is hilarious and how daft i was to make the assumption I did.

I bought a dwarf cherry tree for the balcony from a very reputable well known company... they had a gorgeous picture of it on the website

After waiting 3 weeks (it said 3-5 days), the parcel arrived... I was really excited to see my little leafy cherry tree... "hummm" I thought to myself... that box is rather small and light.. but alas I gently opened it up... and I found... Twiggy the cherry twig looking back at me, much to the mechanics I work withs amusement and my boss telling me how nice it was I had got a new stick for his dogs.

Dissapointed barely covers it, I would have been better off spending my £15 at B&Q, at least theirs had leaves and branches! But I have always been one to take on the underdog and now 'twiggy' is all planted up with some rooting mix in the pot and the half dead summer border plugs that arrived with him. So I guess I cross my fingers for the next 3 years. (Before anyone panics, that vent behind him is blocked)

:sign0016: to GC Twiggy the Cherry Tree

Aww Bex, I can feel your disappointment .... (and ... sorry ... but ... you have to admit ... it's the way you tell it ... :loll: ). But think of it more as a nurturing project ;)

      Keep it well watered!

Have you been in touch with the company to a) express your unhappiness at how long delivery was and b) the condition of the "tree" and plants?
Were the plants in transit all that time?

I had to throw some comedy into that or I'd cry lol! I showed one of the customers at work and she said "oooh get some miracle grow!" my reply... "It's gonna need more than an f'in miracle" lol.

TBH I haven't been back on to the company yet because I wanted to get him into his pot before the last of his roots died. I have no idea how long he was in transit but I do know they ship plants from holland. My mum and dad ordered one from the company and said it arrived the same but 2yrs on and it's finally growing leaves etc.

The plugs were "free gifts" so i don't feel right complaining that they were all half dead on arrival.

            poor things.

LMAO @ "it should be outside" brilliant ;) it's definitely outside ;)

I had a look and it has 1 single bud.. which I'm not even sure if it's a healthy bud or as dead as twiggy looks.

Don't be upset - what you've been sent is what is called a "bare rooted" fruit tree. All that means is that it was grown in the ground at the nursery and not grown in a pot. It is meant to look like that (honest!).

The only thing I'm surprised at is that is has been sent out to you, bare root, at this time - usually they are sent out by March  :noidea:

Anyway, look on the positive side of things: Twiggy is your blank canvas :blue thumb: *You* get to decide if it is going to grow as it pleases, or, if you want to train it as a fan, or as an espalier. So, when you think about it, its turned out quite well really :spinning:

                  Thanks M,

Someone else said to me about them sending it out at this time of year aswell, I didn't realise it was the wrong time when I ordered it, so in that respect I guess the company were only fulfilling my order as requested.

blank canvass... it's like a tumbleweed in a desert it's that blank LOL.

I'm keeping positive, hopefully he will like his new home and decide to surprise me. :) Still slightly comedy though

Well you've certainly given Twiggy a good start and Twiggy has certainly made itself into a talking point for the future :heehee:

Only once many years ago, obviously things haven't changed.

Twiggy HAS SPROUTED! I'm just not completely sure if it's the cherry part that has the sprout or the grafted unknown root stock.
