Do we have a new default setting, as a nation, that setting being 'offended'?

The things that people will complain or be offended about nowadays is getting beyond a joke; take a look at this BBC article; now, can someone explain to me (in words of one syllable if needs be) what on earth there is to complain about to have that headstone removed?

Oh for goodness sake! :thud:......honestly some people obviously have nothing else better to do than complain! My dear old Nan (God rest her soul) always taught us...'if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all!' I wish this was taught in schools! Then this stupid comaining wouldn't take place! :nonofinger:

Good morning @Beckie76 I suspect that it is a sad reflection on some peoples lives and also a form of release for them and just maybe to much time spent thinking which makes you forget how to laugh,my nan was always telling me "an empty mind is the devils workshop";),I am always trying to teach the world to smile:smile:

Not to my taste but it's not my relatives grave. I hope that all involved are really proud of themselves.

Absolutely not. The right to express an opinion (complain as well) is intrinsically linked to this mothers right to chose a headstone for her sons grave - we live in a free society.
All that should have happened is that the council should have told the complainant that no action need be taken and also notified the mother that there had been a complaint and of their decision that no action was required.

There are some pretty tacky memorials in Highgate Hill Cemetery but time tones them down and it is now protected by English Heritage.

It may not be in everyone's taste that stone. But it must be of some significance to the family and in the greater scheme of things I hardly find it offensive. There are far worse than that !

I say this completely without prejudice. There is a division of society usually associated with caravans that have extremes in their taste of grave decoration. I would imagine all hell would break loose if a council were to lay a finger on one of their graves no matter what they put up.

Most grave yards have areas where the graves of the young children are put. Surely a a little "Licence" could be allowed ?

I guess some people are sticklers for conventional approaches and don't tolerate any deviation from that. Probably the same people who dislike someone having a different looking appearance to the front of their house. I love what brings out our individuality. The need to conform is overrated and stifling to me.

If the headstone was an offensive shape then I would understand, but it's not. A high percentage of people just like something to grouch about, everyone else is in the wrong but not themselves.

This country would be fine if it didnt have so many councils, councillors, jobsworths and money grabbing human slugs that call themselves lawyers.

These we need but it would help if more of them had an ounce of competence.

                            So true!
