Oh I love Marrakech! It's great. If you have any questions, fire away.

We're going to Cyprus for 8 days, I didn't want to go away for longer because of growing my wedding flowers. We get back 2/3 weeks before the big day so I can still get everything organised.

The souks are huge and highly recommended. Haggle loads, expect to pay 20-30% of the first price they say. Taxis are cheap (haggle).
The palace and tombs can be seen in one day. The water park is ace- bus goes from near khotoubia mosque.
The main square is great but avoid the henna women. Be firm with anyone who insists on being a "tour guide" and then demands money. You need a good map and prepare to get lost. Plenty of water/sunscreen needed as it gets obscenely hot!
Waterfalls are a good excursion but quite a bit of uphill walking.
And you have to visit majorelle gardens, beautiful place.
A little bit of basic french goes a long way. Enjoy!

My daughter and I were there in November, inside the souks is a labyrinth, fix a high focal point you can spot from a distance, at night the main square comes alive, during the day not so much.

Ian, you must have missed my Holiday thread earlier where most members said where they were (or weren't going). Naturally some hadn't decided then.
We are off to Switzerland staying at Interlaken in August for 11 days. Never done a mountain holiday before, it will be different to the usual Med beach type ones and coach tours.

My Jardin Majorelle and other Morocco pics are still on here from our trip two years ago.
If you are going around August expect to temps in Marrakech to be in the high 30's/low 40's.

Three weeks on Zakynthos next month and back for another three in September. We've just booked the same accommodation for 2016 as we have to book very early to get the studio we want on the dates we want.
Also got a cottage on Tanera Mor in the Summer Isles booked for a week in late July and we'll no doubt manage a few more breaks in the motor home. And I've got a long weekend on the Shiant islands in August.
Fitting in horticulture gets difficult at times!

Some fab holidays people have coming up.
@Ian Taylor - Marrakesh is fabulous, and the Atlas mountains stunning, I drove over them in a hire car which was a real adventure, though wouldn't recommend unless you have nerves of steel (Moroccans' driving is shocking and the mountain roads dodgy). Essouira is lovely if you fancy a few days on the coast.
p.s. forgot to say the dying area is a must see in Marrakesh, and if you like ceramics leave a little room in your luggage for bringing some back home.
@Dave W - the Summer Isles and Shiant - what interesting choices, I hope you'll take some photos to show us.

Staying here in Portugal ... still got so many beautiful places to see. Plus I have an elderly cat I won't leave even with my long-term housesitters ... he needs me now, very clingy!:cat-kittyandsmiley:

Sounds like GC members are keeping Zakynthos afloat this year Dave W.... We will look after the Island in August for you!
Off to Italy in September booking a flight and nothing else, seeing how far we can get over a fortnight, using the trains etc.

We have been there twice when we were much younger and motorcycling. Zante I expect it will have changed a bit Laganas was a small quiet place stayed there twice. I wore gold John Lennon sun glasses with long hair. We pulled up in Roma in a taverna just above the beach on our bike. I used to pose a bit gold bracelet and chain. We waited and waited to get served in the end the owner came and took away our condiments from the table. We never got served later I realised he must have thought we were Germans they used to hate them in those days. The gold did it (plated) Have a great time.
