What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

Today was a repeat of yesterday above, with the exception of spending some while pruning out thick stems that the trimmers couldn't handle. The fifty foot hedge that runs across my garden can wait until later in the year when my body has recovered!

 

Went to work this morning and only realised on the way home I forgot the house keys, locked out on a sunny day

The spare key is with the dog walker who was out walking dogs, mmmm one hour wait before he could bring the key.....so off to the garden centre, Monday's are alway quiet, picked up some bargains and made up some troughs

 

Just seen that one, smashing job

 

Had a top couple of hours at the allotment after a squash match planting out more peas beans kale zucchini balls sprouts etc. First time there in a few weeks and it was just bliss

 

Yesterday I finished planting up the veggie plot gave it a good water (we've had no rain for two weeks and none forecast!) and cleared the paths of weeds. Today I'm going to TRY and take down the henny penny fence, edge the plot and reposition the fence in the earth rather than in the grass. I may be coming back for moral support!

 

Got home from work last night to find, tap installed didn't fancy digging the hose pipe out of the shed after a 12 hour shift (with travelling I'm out the house for 14 hours) and if I remember rightly from last year tis knackered anyway due to major kinks! But relieved to find that just having an outside tap cut the time it took watering with the watering can, then avoided the totally need of cleaning kitchen floor

But alas, no gardening time today apart from watering, got to sit down and crack on with Medication course work, behind with it and it's all got to be handed in at the end of the month

 

still on a go slow which is overly boring

so today i have opened the greenhouse

picked sweet peas flowers

staked the broad beans with larger canes as they have grown taller than the old stakes. how dare they!

and later i will be closing the greenhouse

 

Today I pottered around. Found these little blighters & removed them before any major damage occured
Put some bigger canes in the broad beans, repotted some toms, cucumber & melon, then dead headed flowers.
Feels like I've accomplished something today

 

Dug out the hose pipe from the shed, boy how many sails can you get on it.... unrolled it, wasn't looking good, some major kinks in it! but thought I give it a go anyway....

Kinks were the least of my worries, enough pressure coming from the tap to sort the kinks out... but alas The spray head/gun is knackered me thinks.... It leaked not just at the connector point, but it seems the trigger naffed as well, as it leaked through where it joins, then it wouldn't shut off probably then sprayed with such force a fireman would have been impressed! Hoping my plants will forgive me firing them across the greenhouse on a the crest of a jet of water

So with wet feet, I'm now trying to work out which is the best spray head/gun to buy....... Checked B&Q website by alas reviews are just mind boggling.... Some say yep brilliant then others say rubbish and others well no reviews at all

So do I spend out £20 or so, or do I just opt for the cheapest version! the one that's just gone belly up I brought last year and hardly used it, but it was a cheap B&Q one!

 

Buy a sprinkler instead Ellie, you can be doing other things while it's doing the watering.

 

I've strimmed down all the daffodils in the lawn and it looks so much tidier out there now. Got my 'nappy' compost mix going for the only two baskets I have and then planted begonias in those. They seem to be holding back on growth like the rest of my annuals and to be honest I can't see them doing very well.

Everything is planted out so I finished by washing the remaining pots and trays, now drying in the greenhouse. There's only the tomatoes to tend in there now as I won't be growing anything from cuttings this year.
