Yes... I'm doing something very wrong. It's weird because where they are is usually quite damp, which is how they've lasted the last 12 months. But today, that part is very dry whereas the rest of the bed has a good level of moisture. I think I haven't put the seep hose close enough to them. And in spring didn't water it enough because I thought it was damper there than it was. I have given them a good soaking today so fingers crossed. The top leaves are still green and healthy, just the older inner leaves have crisped up.

I have to admit, I think I'm lucky they've lasted as long as they have because they're in a raised bed, in a garden that gets very hot and the soil is very quick draining. Though I did seriously mulch them.

Spent time with the hose refreshing everything that isn't in the ground (there's a lot!) and refreshing anything recently planted in the ground (fair bit of that an' all).
Now having a cuppa and admiring the pretty jug filled with hydrangeas from my garden :wub2:

I love that guy - he has such an infectious personality, and he looks just like a chemist should. There are some of his videos where he has talked about people and things from his childhood (fascinating), and it is clear that he is such a genuine and warm person.

Yes. I'm taking any set back in my stride now as there is lots going well (except the Echinaceas but I'll try growing a new plant in a pot away from the bed). It helps understanding why some things don't work. Half of it seems to be learning when to fuss over a plant and when to leave alone. Just hope I have some success with the Dahlias :)

Well, managed to get the henny penny fencing down then decided not to put it back around the veggie plot but to span the garden with it to keep the hens in the top 2/3rds. Going well till I got tangled in the web fencing - tripped and smashed to the ground which of course is rock hard due to no rain for weeks! Ahhh...now have one bad knee from running and one bad knee from the fall.

The good news is the veggie plot is much easier to work now I have better access. Also, with moving the fencing I can extend the veggie plot up to the pond wall so gaining about a half metre in length. This area still needs a couple days work on it but today I'm working at the top of the garden extending the onion bed in an effort to squeeze in more melons and squashes. The weather is absolutely perfect here today - a sunny 72 degrees (in old money) with a light breeze [IMG] After I took the dogs out over the cow fields for a paddle in the pond/swim in the stream, I came home and pottered in the garden. When I say "pottered" I mean dragged some 90L containers full of compost/plants around :heehee: I've also watered everything in the back garden which took me best part of two hours because I gave everything a deep drench. Need to do the front garden but will save that for later. I'm going to go and do more pottering and pot up some Camellias. I need to do a plan for where all my new shade plants are going, but I haven't got the foggiest where to start :what:

I did some more tying and training of the various Clematis which seem to be growing 12" a day:heehee: Then I donned the Chest Waders again for another paddle in the pond so that I could clean out the pond pump properly and locate it in the proper place. As I was wading across to one side a Frog swam in front of me so nonchalantly that I thought it might turn over and do the Backstroke:dunno: You get a different perspective of the pond when you're standing in the centre of it and I was able to tidy up various plants that I wouldn't have easily been able to if I'd been standing on the banks. That's when I notice this guy about 2' away from me sitting in the Sun. I was able to reach for my camera lying on the paving and he sat there not bothered a bit.

Did some watering, potting on and pricking out when I got home.
My greenhouse is getting far too hot despite the vent. I don't understand it. I don't think the vent is opening enough- it was 40 degrees in there and the vent was only open a bit? Meh! I've wedged it with wood for now.

                          Now you see me (drain)

                          Now you don't (ish)

Got hold of an offcut of artificial grass to cover the drain, not perfect but does the trick.
