I have been nurturing a buddleja :spinning: that was in very bad condition when we first moved in. I followed internet advice and cut it all back this year in March...new growth started to appear :yay:... Which was great .....until.......Mr AB....had an accident cutting down a leaning dead tree! It fell.....and one of the branches hit the budlia.....:yikes:

My question is has anyone grown a Budlia from a cutting? I will probably purchase a new one but would like to have a go at growing one myself, any advice would be helpful :dbgrtmb:

Good Morning Dips how funny is that....., I'm currently reading this web site :) and following instructions

I was just wondering how successful it was and if any members have produced some good ones from doing this.

It would be a shame not to do something from it as it was flattened!! If only I had a camera at the time.....MR AB's face was a picture :thud:

@Apple Blossom , have a go at cuttings, after all, you literally have nothing to loose! But meantime, don't give up on the "squashed" parent. They are tougher than you think....!

Stick some branches from it (first remove most of the leaves) in the ground, keep it well watered and they'll just grow.

Hi Sian, the squashed parent was pushed out of the ground roots and all, but I agree I have nothing to loose I've put the shoots in water at the mo and they are sucking up water so into a pot later :blue thumb:

This time last year I truly thought the Buddleja was indestructible:yikes:

It taken several years to destruct this plant, it did dwelled next to the house wall, growing in tarmac of my drive....

I can only imagine that it got into it's tiny crevice via being a seed in bird droppings, as birds use the sat dish as a perch! I cut the leaves off as soon as they started to appear as I do the weeds along the wall, but the dam thing just kept on growing the faster I cut the faster it grew...

I declared manger war on it last year, I took cold chisels to the tarmac to get at the roots, then spent several hours hacking away at the roots with an wood chisel... I'm still awaiting with baited breath to see if it comes back this year at some point...

So I should think that with a bit of TLC or a cutting or two, your buddleja will recover

              Hehe how spooky

Even if the main buddleia was pushed out roots and all it may survive

I had a dwarf buddleia that wasnt a year old that got tramped on by builders and covered with sand and soil and had equipment put on top of it. It spent two days under a slab. It survived and grew back and then i had to dig it out because the fence behind was being replaced and didnt want it trampled on again. Again it died back but then started growing again and is now ahppily growing in a different part of the garden

They really are tough old things

                Hi Apple Blossom,

Do you want to try some from seed ? Now is the time to sow them.

I have a packet of Suttons"Butterfly Hybrids Mixed", I've only used a few out of it as I only wanted 2 or 3.

You're welcome to the remainder if you want them :)

If you re-plant the original plant it should come back, they're tough as old boots.
