So one of my agapanthus is growing a bit strangely in places. Its not an evergreen one like my other two which are fine.

It has odd growth that looks like this. Sorry for the blurry pics my iphone wouldnt focus for some reason no matter how hard i tried

But it has plenty of normal buds too

The only thing i did different this year was top up the compost in the pot when it started producing shoots as it hadn't had new compost for two years. Could that have caused this? Does anyone know why it has produced this growth and should i remove it or not?

My wisteria amethyst falls produced plenty of silvery buds so was expecting it to be fine but they died off and it did nothing. It has started producing some growth finally but its not happy. It looks like this

What can i do to nurse it back to health? Should i feed it or cut it back to the growth it has produced or just leave it be?

    Any help will be appreciated

Hi the wisteria looks like slug or snail damage as something has eaten it.

the agapanthus has and I have forgotten the word but the flowers are fused so a insect has damaged the bud very early on in its development best to cut out as it wont flower properly the rest should be fine and topping up with fresh compost wasnt the cause

        Thank you spruce

Would insect damage be the reason that that one bud seems to be fused with a leaf as well.

I think the wisteria damage was from cold winds in may as the buds just died rather than eaten and this is now the new growth finally coming through

Would cutting it down to that growth help it at all as nothing it going on much higher?

I'm kind of thinking maybe weedkiller damage?
Often spray "drift" can produce odd growth in plants that were not actually sprayed.

Ah @pete there is a flaw in your thinking im afraid. I dont use weed killer lol only boiling water is used for killing weeds

Also the agapanthus was over wintered in the greenhouse until a few weeks a go so have been protected

They both dont use weedkiller. My neighbour the one side has been digging all the weeds out by hand and the other neighbours have a toddler so dont use anything like that and the neighbours at the back have paved gardens and are lower down than mine. I dont know them but there is also two rows of fences there as well as neither of us know who is reponsible for that boundry so i have a fence one side of the concrete boundary markers and they have a fence the other side. My fence is a good foot higher than theirs as well because of the drop in the land.

Could it be Thrips? They cause damage to unopened buds...

not good with the wisteria how long has it been planted ?

I have grown many different varieties of agapanthus over the years and have only seen the joining of flowers and leaves occasionally I woudnt worry

                Hi

sorry to say as you already know its not looking promising , I think whats happening roots etc is the problem , did it get water logged over the winter months , they really do need a well drained spot to thrive .

nope my garden is well drained as i have very sandy soil. the only area that is wetter is in front of my sheds because all the rain runs off the concrete area of the garden into those beds and then they are in mostly shade so stay wetter.

In my head I have written it off anyway and if it cant be rescued I'm replacing it with an Akebia Quinata anyway

Is there anything I can do to help it along at all and give it some help?

So all the new growth that the wisteria had started producing has died back again.

Im going to dig it up and stick in in a pot and see if that helps save it. if not oh well

got an akebia quinata coming now anyway to replace it

Dug up the wisteria today and when i lifted it the root ball looked really healthy until i lifted it out properly and half of it fell off lol

So the roots were def the problem. I have stuck it in a pot and pruned it back to the green bits and we will see what happens. If it recovers not sure where im going to put it. The only place would be where my sweet peas are currently. The akebia quinata arrived today so thats been planted in its place and hopefully will do better.

My agapanthus produced another odd bit of growth so i removed that. Weirdly all the odd growth is at the back of the pot.
