    Could anyone recommend a company who could take and dispose of an old greenhouse made of glass, and who could supply and fit a new one which hasn't got dangerous glass but a safe substitute for glass. I need a company who could take care of the whole lot for me.

    @Fizzy
    Welcome.
    How big is the old greenhouse? How big is the new one you want?
    Best bet for disposal is freecycle or similar. You could try ebay.
    Most of the greenhouse companies I'm aware of will erect, but only onto a clear prepared site.

    Thank you for that. Am hoping to get the same size as the glass one we are getting rid of. Since posting this my brother is going to ask the allotment holders if they want the old one. The site I was thinking of buying from said self assembly but I will email them incase they have any contacts ..

    how about purchasing clear safety window film to cover the glass in the existing greenhouse?

    Basically it transforms the potentially dangerous float (ordinary) glass into safety glass.

    You can buy the film online or if you google 'Window Films', you'll come up with somebody who'll be happy to come along and film it for you.

    Or you could even change all of the glass for laminated safety glass (from a Glazing company), that's a type of glass with an integral safety film

    or perspex / polycarbonate from a plastics company. (perspex is fairly cheap but yellows with age, polycarb is horrifically expensive but won't ever 'yellow')

    I worked in the glazing trade for six years and know glass & glass types inside out.

    Thank you for the info. It is for my elderly father and any type of glass worries me. Polycarbonate is worth a look into.

    Just to add my tuppence worth. I got a new greenhouse last year and as I am an OAP daughter insisted I got safety glass. Wow does it make a difference to the old greenhouse glass which would break into hideous shards if you just tapped it. The safety glass in my greenhouse is floor to ceiling with no joins ie not 2x2ft like the old stuff. I have given it a good hard smack with a garden fork and it didn't bat an eyelid. The person who built it for me dropped a small angular bit which goes on the hip end, the glass broke understandably falling onto the slab base but the bits were not sharp at all, just like broken windscreen glass. I was a bit cross about being made to pay the extra for safety glass by my nearest and dearest but the long panes and hardly any joins make the whole structure much much stronger and it is quite comforting to know I am unlikely to be cutting the jugular when I do a nose dive into the glass probably sooner rather than later:) I am very pleased with my new greenhouse (my 4th). It wasn't cheap but it has withstood some fairly fierce winds up here in the countryside of Scotland. I better not mention the company I got it from but feel free to message me if you want details.

    I've just done half my greenhouse with 4mm 4x2 twinwall polycarb sheets £40 from ebay with free delivery, has I got the greenhouse for free off freecycle, half the glass was missing so decided to use polycard worked out cheaper than glass

      Hi @Frizzy, you could place an advert in your local shop or on free cycle/gumtree or things for sale website in your local area, state buyer must collect & dismantle, that will get rid of it. :)
