What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

Had a busy afternoon after I got back from climbing. Did loads of weeding, flipping couch grass argh! Planted up the boring rockery which has needed doing for months. It has a saxifrage, desmoploma (?), miniature rose and lavender now. Very happy with that.
Then I did some cutting back, planting out and potting on. Chuffed to bits that I managed to get the david Austin rose I wanted, and a pot for it which matches my others. Super solstice!

 

I've dug up and potted on three small pieces of root (with shoot) of what has been identified as peony. Couldn't stay where it was, so this is its best chance of life.
Likewise with an epimedium.
Hopefully I've done the right thing.

 

The usual dead heading this morning, now we have thunder, lightening, torrential rain with hail.

 

It's peeing it down out there, so in short, none!

 

More tying in of sweet peas, clematis, sunflowers and wisteria

Pulled up some weeds and didnt notice one was a stinging nettle and i wrapped my whole hand around it with no gloves on. Whoops! I should of been paying more attention but oh well

 

Harvested the first of my potatoes (grown in pots) - had about 1kg of Charlottes from a 12 inch container, looking forward to them with my roast chicken this evening.

Planted up a couple of outdoor cucumbers in a large pot for my neighbour - usually have a reasonable crop grown this way.

I have a real abundance of red valerian naturally springing up in my front garden. Whilst it is a graceful plant (a garden escape), when it gets feathery (white seeds) then it needs attention. So intensive deadheading took place today....I do it for as long as my back allows/doesn't play up (and I don't even have a back condition!)

 

Weeded asparagus, but bindweed wins hands down. I tried the bag with glyphosate, which has worked to some extent, will do a repeat in a couple of weeks. Planted out a few more squash. Wondered why there was a squashed place on my border, my father thought it might be hedgehogs. My husband owned up to the painting ladder:( but as the repainted wall looks so nice I' ve forgiven him.

 

Oh I'm trying that too ... takes a while though

 

Today I potted on 3 sad looking roses and a repeat blooming hydrangea- all got for an absolute bargain from wyevale. I now have 3 lady Emma Hamilton and a rhapsody in blue- who needs gardeners world live for shopping ha!

 

Weeded three trug-full of weeds from pavement along boundary of property. (We are obliged to maintain up to the Tarmac edge of road here, including sweeping snow in winter). Need a cuppa, and a thorough hand-scrub!!

 

Killing cockchafers they are everywhere today and are tiny ones. Think they have finally transformed from grubs and have emerged.

Did some weeding and managed to pull another stinging nettle out with my bare hands. This one was tiny tho.

 

Weekend was pretty manic with potting up a couple more containers, bedding plants, visitors and hound walking..... I was greeted Monday morning in work by one of our residents, who said 'you're look knackered!' not what you want to hear at the beginning of a 12 hour shift.....

Today, was supposed to be a 'chill' day nothing much apart from watering, that was until 11am this morning when one of the dogs sent a container flying and broke it.... So off to the garden center to replace it...

Home with two more containers, and some more plants, which I have no repotted up but alas, I know go to clear up, do some rearranging of containers, then realised I need to feed the containers..... Which is an horribly slow process using the sprayer instead of the hose, so that I don't get any feed on the foliage

Hubby starting to get worried about my addiction to containers, I just keep sneaking them in, and I'm going with my daughter to the garden center on Friday, and I'm thinking that I could do with a couple Palms or small tree's in containers to balance the garden up a bit....
