It's a good time now to remind everyone about potato blight and Blightwatch.

You can register at this link to get free alerts if blight is detected in your area. It's up to you if you want to register, some dont bother and just act when they find it.

    http://www.blightwatch.co.uk/content/bw-Home.asp

Good luck and stay blight free!

Also a good time to purchase nematodes if you have a large crop of potatoes growing, stop the nasty slimey critters devouring your tatties.

    Steve...:)

I always register with, not only with my own postcode, but also with those to the North, East, West & South of my location to enable monitoring of what's happening around me.

They normally wait until I'm on holiday 200 miles away from my plot before suddenly warning me of imminent death of all my tomato & potato crops.

          Hello again
I guess you just have to be cautious. Keep an eye out for any continual cold wet weather, thats ideal conditions for blight. If you have tomatoes make sure they aren't too crowded together, and I'm not quite sure about potatoes, because I've never grown them but if you do notice blight on a plant remove it immediately, and try stop it spreading.

Gone on holiday, put the tent up, turned on WiFi, first email is blight alert for back home, flipping typical.

I got a second alert the next day whilst at Pets at Home, Weymouth, and a fat lot of use that one was to me, but as soon as I've got back home they've stopped

It does look like it craig - it spreads very rapidly and can wipe out a potato patch literally overnight - I'd spray with Bordeaux Mixture asap.

I've stripped every infected leaf/stem. There are still plenty of unaffected branches on which should hopefully keep the plants and spuds growing. This is the plants now after their 'surgery' ... I think I've caught it early

I've had a warning there was a Smith period here, so I've ordered some more Bordeaux Mixture just in case.

Cut the tops off these on Saturday and have started digging them up. Luckily it had only got my Charlottes which were just about ready to come out. Grown under Mypex and only had 1 with slug damage (got 2 with the fork).

No signs of blight on my PFAs or Tomatoes. Reckon it was from that Full Smith Period when I was on holiday.
