Hi. Thanks for the pics. Nope - no flowers like yours.

Pentland javelin planted 14/03 and 28/03. Maris peer planted 16/04. . Nicola planted 21/04. Rocket planted 04/05. Desiree planted 04/05.

Just been out to see them. Couple of pics attached. What is with the dry leaves. Please don't say the B word. Incidentally I live in the north east of England. Potatoes are being grown in bags using garden centre bought MPC.

Your Javelin might be ready, gently have a look/feel to see if there are any edible size tubers just under the surface. Rocket will be next (being a first early). Maris Peer and Nicola will be a few more weeks yet (2nd Early) whilst Desiree will be the last (Maincrop).

The dry/brown leaves look like physical damage, maybe from wind. Keep them well watered and give them a tomato feed once a week to bulk them up.

They look delish. I tried growing some myself but they were a little wrinkly.

What a relief. Been very windy - so that makes sense. Will unearth the javelins on Thurs all being well.

Hi I have had Duke of York 1st earlies planted since 17th march. Does anyone know if they are meant to flower? Emptied a pot of then end of may but not good results, get about 12 very tiny ones so kept this pot planted for longer. We are in Scotland so maybe the cooler climate has a lot to so with this. Thanks

Hi @gill75 , some years they flower and some years they don't, it's hit and miss. The only sure fire way of telling if they are ready is to scrape a little soil away and feel the size of the tubers. They grow just under the soil surface. It's been two weeks since you last tried so I guess they will be much bigger now. Let us know :blue thumb:

Thanks JWK. I emptied the pot this morning and got a few more than the first but enough for our tea :blue thumb:. I have discovered another pot of them I didn't realise I had planted so going to leave them a bit longer until I need them. We have wilja for out seconds and sarpo Mira for our main crop which him really looking forward to seeing the results of later in the year as I've heard great things about that variety. Thanks again :)

JWK here is our small amount we got out of our 40cm pot today. It had 2 seed potatoes in it :dunno: Maybe will be better in the last pot as it's a much bigger one

Well still no flowers on the Pentland javelin, Nicola, or rocket, but the start of buds are showing on Maris peers which are second earlies. Gonna have to bite the bullet and empty out the Pentland javelins tomorrow or Saturday. If not the desired will be flowering next!!!!

Nearly three weeks later and I've had to enlist some 'helpers', now getting nearly 7lbs (3Kg) per container (2 plants):

Me too. Had home grown potatoes for the first time today.

These were the Pentland javelin that did not flower. This is all of the from one sack (5 chitted pots). There were several tiny ones, size of a blueberry. Would they have grown if left alone?

They tasted lovely, just a bit disappointed with how many I got.

Depending on answers to the tiny potato query, I may leave the second sack of Pentland javelin another week or so.

I too want to eat more right now!

                      Thanks
