Visited the Sand Martins' nesting site at Porthdinllaen near Morfa Nefyn at the weekend, didn't have a 'proper' camera with me due to taking daughter + gear for a Scout/Guide Leader's camp in Snowdonia, but had the satisfaction of also visiting the 3rd Best Beast Beach Pub in the World (on the way there + on the way back!), plus it's a lovely, dog friendly beach.

Only managed one pic with a Sand Martin in it, despite being a whole cloud of at least over 100 of them flying around

I found out today that my "hair day" beetle is a Lucanus cervus - Stag Beetle, shame really as when the male mates he dies and when the female lays her eggs she dies too. It's the largest beetle in the UK and now quite rare, this is probably the female, so glad I scooped it up and put it safe before Tess tried to eat it

I was working amongst the bees this afternoon. :blue thumb:

In one of our veg plots we have a patch of Stachys that is about 6ft x 3ft and I was weeding it as it's full of bindweed and grass. They're starting to flower now and are about knee height, so I had to put my arms right down amongst the plants. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of bees all over them but they weren't the least bit bothered by me working amongst them.

They were climbing up my arms and over my hands but didn't take any notice of me. The peculiar thing was that they were making almost no noise at all! I must have seen at least six different types of bees. :)

Ten new black Bamboo canes gradually being destroyed!
They sit on them till they snap and rip all the new leaf growth off.
I have encouraged them into the garden so I shouldn't really complain.

Was at our favourite plant nursery yesterday near Manchester Airport, its right at the end of the runway.
We had a unexpected fly past by the last flying Vulcan bomber it was flying for Armed Forces day. It came in really low over the airport then climbed away and did a victory roll.
                            Sorry couldn't get any pictures
