Gutted!!

Went out to check me Vege's today and all that is left is stumps ... my cabbage and Brocs have all been nibbled to death overnight!! ... pigeons I figure .... next year must use netting ... Really upset they were actually starting to pick up and grow nicely.
I suppose there are always losses and we live n learn :-)

 

I used to have the same problem. Eventually built a debris netting cover with blue hoops, and that 's sorted the flying Devils as well as the rBbits and butterflies. Although I still get the odd large white in there, don't know how they get through.

 

They circle over the net for a minute, and when they'm in the exact right position they shut their wings and drop straight thru a hole

 

A net with smaller holes then?

 

I found they acted in squadrons to get through the netting to my cavolo nero.

 

Can I ask where you all live? Wondering if I should be concerned about butterfly attacks!!! Got my hands full with slugs, snails and next door neighbours cats at the mo.

 

I was between Brid and Driffield at the time. Lots of arable fields around. Now I'm in Hessle, I haven't seen any butterflies yet, my garden is only in it's first year. But yesterday I had to spray a climbing rose as tiny caterpillars were stripping the leaves.
