What's looking good in June 2015

Such delicate flowers. I've bookmarked it for the future. I'm supposed to be down sizing my gardens when I eventually move, it's not going to be easy!

I had to have a look.

 

That's gorgeous Longk, I've always been put off them before.

They had them in my local shop a couple of weeks ago and they had pinched them out that much that they looked like little pyramids of flower. They just don't look natural like that.
( I'm sorry if I've offended anyone but I like natural looking plants/flowers).

 

Been so busy today completing the outside sitting area of the house but got my camera out and couldn't resist taking these whilst the sun was on them..... nothing special.... just pretty colours!

Thank you Apple Blossom. I'm hoping to see more colour as summer progresses but my annuals are putting on a lousy performance at the moment. We'll see if this warmer weather helps.

The colour in your first shot is wonderful, it almost hurts my eyes it's so bright.

I was looking at your lupins, mine are a bit of a disasters, I think I have planted them in the wrong position, semi shaded and they are a really weird shape, looking at yours I think I need to get on with the digging and put them in full sun so they grow upright

 

Like me then. I have a real aversion to plants grown as standards.

Anyway, my Lobelia tupa is in bloom






There's about 25 flowering stems on it this year..................

Nicely exotic foliage is a bonus.................

 

I don't like standards that are pinched out and grown as lollipops, but when I do mine I only do the stem and then let the plant take over, no pinching or anything so they get a natural "tree" like appearance.

That Lobelia is stunning, well dine on that, I always thought they were a bit tricky.

 

A lot of people say that - here's my stock response;

Very simple if you do the basics.
1] It's a prairie plant so unlike a lot of other perennial Lobelia it prefers to grow on the dry side. Good drainage goes without saying.
2] Do not cut the stems down until the spring as they're hollow and water can run into the heart of the plant killing it over the winter.
3] A winter mulch is not essential but it helps. If you do mulch avoid anything claggy (like leaf mulch) - I use fallen conifer needles which allow some air circulation.
