How do you get rid of 0.75 tonnes of sod, soil, clay and stone?

After all of the work I've been doing on the garden, I've now got a 1 tonne polybag about 3/4's full of earth, soil etc... I've got all of what I need out of it now and I really don't have any space to keep it.

I'm planning on getting a 220L compost bin but I don't know how much of the polybag i can empty into 220L.

I've got an advert up on Freecycle and Gumtree but other than paying someone to come and pick it up (quoted £70), are there any other avenues that I've not pursued before I fork out some cash?

 

So difficult to get rid of. I had nearly 3 tonnes to get rid of when I did mine. Luckily folks had an allotment and there was an area they are trying to build up and was able to bag up my bits and locate it there.

Have you seen if your local tip will accept it? May mean you have to bag it into smaller bags.

 

Yea i thought about using the tip, only thing is, i don't really fancy asking the missus if i can take bags and bags and bags of soil in her nice new car ha ha

I was thinking about asking the builders on the estate. It's still under construction at the moment so they should have the ability to make soil disappear in some way.

 

The amount of stuff that i've found "hidden" under the turf is just incredible... makes you wonder what they think you're going to do with your garden once you've bought it?

 

Give one of the builders a tenner. (preferably the one who drives the earth moving machine.) Problem solved.

 

This is what i thought... turns out, i put it on Gumtree and managed to get 3 people interested in collecting it tomorrow night... job done! It's amazing what people need

 

Did you manage to get rid of your waste?

 

@Guesty, i've had a couple of people come over from Gumtree and Freecycle who've taken about half a tonne off me. Just needing to get rid of the last bit now.

@wiseowl, i've already used as much as i can in raised beds... this is literally the leftovers from the landscaping. I wish i had more space to build another raised bed just so that i can fill it ha ha!

2...Fill pocket with earth...

3...Go for a long walk gently shaking trousers...

It worked a treat in the German POW camps when our chaps were digging tunnels...

 

you joke @raebhoop , but it was getting to the point where i was starting to think about taking carrier bags of the stuff "for a walk", and come back with no bag

FreeCycle and Gumtree fixed my issue though. After 2 nights of people collecting a couple of bags here and there... the full tonne has gone
