What Camera????

did go to a camera store yesterday, he was out of the Sony RX100 but would get some in. when I told him what I wanted a camera to do for me he showed me a Nikon P610 60X it will cost $450.00 (higher than I wanted to spend) Seems the Soney HX50 , I can get for around $340.
I did handle the Nikon--it certain was a pretty red. anyway did have a good stabilizer feature for the long zoom, he showed me how clear even way across the street the pic was. I can go to the Sony links and look it up, and back again to the shop. thanks all.

 

the strange part of the camera shop, he does not sell Cannons or the Panasonic's should have asked him why.

 

That could be in the RX100's favour, possibly a popular camera. I'll have a look at the Nikon later.

 

My thinking exactly, that it is sold out. However, a lot of links are steering me to the HX50 saying its a good travel camera.

 

Nikon D40x
Nikon D80
Nikon D800 (not technically mine but I have access to it)

Out of the 3 of them, my favourite is the D80. The D40x is properly fun if you've never used a DSLR before and the D80 is great if you're looking for the next step up.

The D800 is an animal. Can't really go wrong with one in my opinion but they're a pricier option.

 

Really want a Fuji x100s :O

thanks I will check out the D80. hope it has a good point and shoot, and no lenses to fiddle with, and a good burst, and stabilizer. If anything during this process I am learning new things. LOL.

 

@redstar It will act as a point and shoot once if you just set it into an auto mode or A,S,P priority. You'll get some great photo's if you have a play with some of the other settings too.

I've just had a look and you can get them on eBay for about £110-£120 with a lens

 

just checked it out, sorry off my list, it is not an point and shoot, and I don't want to mess with any extra things, just make it easy as possible for me. really don't want to have to play too much with settings. Maybe close up for flowers, and if a beach, or snow, or sporting events etc. Just quick. Need this for wildlife in Alaska, that is the main reason I am looking.

Want: compact, point and shoot, a good zoom (distance) burst, and stability for the long range shots. And built in video.

 

Thanks Wiseowl. will check this out. but have to find a shop that carries cannon's the one near me does not. I am getting so confused. This is worse than buying a car.

this does review well. And the cost is acceptable. Still back to the Sony Cyber shot HX50V (looked back at that ) To go from the Sony Cyber shot HX 50 to the Sony Cyber shot RX100 is $140 dollars more, (is it really worth it). But, will go and see if I can find a cannon dealer. the other issue is, if it needs repairs, at least I know the Sony store is near. The cannon store I have yet to find (working on it). Again, I bought a car much easier.

 

With the needs that you listed Redstar I still think I'd go for the Sony RX100. It may cost a bit more but I think it's the better of the two Sony's. I've also read that the HX50 is not as good for indoor shots.

However, there are another couple of ways of making a decision that always work for me.

If in doubt, don't do it! Or.....

Go with your first thought.
