I was going to add 2 inches of topsoil but the house is in dire need of money spending so I'm cutting the corner on the soil and putting the money to better use inside.

I've ordered this seed and some pre seed fertiliser.
I shall sow in a month or two.
If it fails or doesn't look ace then I will kill it in a few years and add the soil.
At least it's pretty level now.

Anyway here's the seed I've gone for.

I don't think it will be a problem as you've done all the correct preparation and grass seed is pretty tough.

The seed you've chosen looks like a good all rounder. :dbgrtmb: If you sow in early September it should pretty much look after itself and have the autumn and winter months to establish itself. :)

It will also give you a chance to kill any weeds that may pop their heads up above ground. :)

I've done 2 backpacks of glyphosate out there but I will hit it again a week before seeding.

Slowly slowly I'm getting the levels I desire.
A few weeds reared their head but a blast with glyphosate has sorted that.
I have the fertiliser to go down a week before the seed.
Just need to finalise a few things and drop the seed.

I gave up the idea of hauling dirt in, so today the fertiliser went down and I raked it in and watered.
This released even more stones which I have to pick out.
In 3 days the seed will be laid.
I'm not happy with the soil but time is running out and I can't see me finishing the job properly this year so I'm calling it quits and will reseed in a few days.
The ground is a smooth continuous slope which I'm happy with but the stones boil my piss.

You're never going to get rid of the stones Car.crash and they will help with drainage. :) Once the lawn is growing the soil will stop moving around and bringing them to the surface.

Same here, the stones will keep re appearing as the soil moves around. I am almost at the same stage as you. It is annoying but what can you do. I have also started seeing new weed growth which infuriated me quite a lot more than the stones.

I'm chomping at the bit to get this seed down. I've started watering the soil twice a day to keep it moist and ready for growth. 2 days left and its game on.

                  Well the seed is down.
All watered and all I can do from here is keep the soil as moist as I can and let nature do its work.
I've put garden canes down with bird tape.
Hopefully this won't damage the new shoots?

Hopefully the grass will be up in a week or so. It's so pleasing to see that first sheen of new grass. :) The canes won't damage the shoots, grass is very tough. This is what I've done below and the grass started to come through two days ago. A lump of buried concrete that I didn't know was there had come to the surface, so a little work was needed to sort it out. The canes might seem like over kill but my neighbourhood is full of cats and these are the best defence. :)

I've also seeded lots of areas in the front garden.
Those are coming up great and I've given them next to no preparation.
