What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

I must admit I'm not doing anything in the garden today other than looking at it while drinking coffee!

I have however, spent 3 hours digging the allotment this morning

 

I had to fasten the eggplant to the deck railing as the plant could not support the weight of the eggplant.

 

Oh wow: fry! How wonderful ... except ... if you don't post pictures, it isn't real

Took no effort for me when I had a mahoosive one in my previous house. Moved in one year, looked at it and it was dead the next

And what a colourful, cheery place you have for drinking coffee in! Like that, a lot

 

Just spend a few minutes: tying in a couple of rogue loganberry stems; attaching ties to the trellis for the solanum crispum glasnevin (its first year out of a pot); misted the climbing beans (something I read about recently, so trying it).

Weeding is still on the agenda: just can't seem to get on top of the bindweed and now bramble is popping up too

 

The problem I have with photographing fry, is, they tend to be .... Small

Seriously, the fish were quite tame, until we had a visit from Mr Heron. Now, it is unusual to see more than one of the adults at a time.... I have fencing mesh just below the surface, to keep the heron and the - ummm - fish-hunting Weimaraner out. She didn't "do" water, but I found her on 3 separate occasions, all four paws in the barrel, looking a little sheepish (and no, I didn't take photos, too busy getting her out!!) the fence-mesh works quite well, actually. Easy to move out if I need to get to the depths, and marginals are just slotted into the big square holes, and are then just below the surface. We have possibly 5 adult fish, two are home-bred, and 2 years old. They have just changed into adult colouring. Two light gold fish, and hopefully still one of the dark gold fish.

Everyone is much happier now that I've replaced the water pump, but the improvement of water quality means the fish are happier in the lower reaches again. Hubby is happy though!! We love the sound of bubbling water next to the patio...

Well, after the past couple of hours, on my knees, bent over and excavating only a small area of border really, I think I'm going to be able to recognise bindweed roots in my sleep Previously, I've been pulling them out/spraying them and not finding either to particularly effective. So, donned my gloves, kneeling mat, bag-for-life and hand fork and set to the task They go on FOR EVER!!!! I think I've cleared a bit, then move on to the next section, follow the trail, which leads back to where I have just been, only deeper and deeper

Had to come in before I:
get back ache
dehydrate
get sunstroke (it's the sunniest part of the garden and it-is-hot!)

I feel like I will be at this task for years and years to come

 

I went out into the garden at about 9:30 just to see what needed doing. When I next looked at the clock it was 12:50! Where did the morning go??!? I suppose it went on the deadheading, cutting back, watering and mulching. :-)

 

Not long been back from a week away and I can't believe how the garden has grown....mowing the lawns and dead heading is in order me thinks

 

If looks could kill! That's a talent I didn't know you had @"M", can I borrow you please?
