Are they hardneck garlick? as softnecks don't produce scapes, if hardnecks/elephant garlic haven't produced any scapes, then they've probably only got to the 'round' stage, and haven't divided into cloves with a central hard stem amongst them, they can be eaten as they are or re-planted in the autumn to grow into a proper bulb, and rounds should produce bigger bulbs than cloves.

I have no idea what they are - I bought a starter pack from The Garlic Farm and planted them....

I appear to have a complete failure with the garlic this year - its not got past the teeny-tiny stage ; cloves have formed, they just havent filled out... possibly its not been wet enough. Frustrating as I replanted the best of last years crop.

I can`t say I have had tremendous success this year too, agree probably to dry at a vital stage, we did have a hot/warm spell around Easter, I think.
I have the best drying and the smaller cloves going back in for next year, I don`t need so much since O.H. died, so plenty for me.
