Just watered all of my potted ferns (of which there are now many!) and did a bit of dead heading, then stripped some lower leaves going yellow on the dahlias. Something's eating the ends of the dahlia petals when I'm buds :-(

Found a few vine weevil, clearly never going to be shot of them!

Completely cleared two beds of weeds (until the next time) and given the roses their last feed for this year. Ooooo I hated saying that, it means autumn is creeping up on us!

Moving pots around today because I decided they would look better in a different place :heehee:

Since doing the window boxes at the weekend and adding some potted plants to a wall out front, I struggle to stop looking out the window at them all

Moved the "tool" garden bench from the Utility End of the garden to the main garden beside the fence so I have an area of afternoon shade I can sit and ponder life's mysteries from.

More of my hydrangea cuttings are coming into flower so I can tell which ones are which now :heehee: One is definitely on the list for that great compost heap in the sky. It's a lace cap and it was from a cutting of one a friend gave me in my previous garden. It would look small in maturity there, but it will be mahoosive here so its days are numbered (once it stops flowering because the insects are still enjoying it).

It's turned cloudy here, so not a lot is going on in the gardening department today (I have to bake a cake).

Well, I decided to start digging up a bed just by my apple tree.

It gets a lot of dappled shade, and most of the plants that were put there
are suitable. However, they were looking a bit straggly, so I cut back and weeded,
turned some soil over to freshen it up.

Then I put in some new plants that I had grown from seeds, Aqueligias, Foxgloves,
Polemoniums, and too many others to mention.

Had to keep taking breaks, as I can only dig for above 40 minutes as then my back
starts to hurt, so then I went indoors to prick out some Basil seeds,( Basil lettuce,
Basil red leafed, Basil lemon, and sweet Dani),

After that it was lunchtime, so went out again after that, and started again.

Well, now resting as just roasting a bit of pork fillet for dinner.

Might have another go after dinner.

The cake idea got abandoned @Jenny namaste  (life was happening!)
I made up a packet of chemicals + milk, whisked for one minute, left it to set for 5 minutes and called it dessert instead

Really unhappy with the way one area of the garden has developed. The day lilies and Persicaria red dragon have got quite large and flopping all over other plants and crowding then out.

Very tempted to haul it all out and replanting, I know it's too late really and will have to water everyday, but it just looks awful.

There is one plant combo that's worked really well so would like to replicate this.

                      Thoughts.

The Persicaria ( mature stems ) can be cut back near the base leaving the younger stems to grow as secondary's - this will free up a bit of space,

trying each morning to go out during the nice quiet cool part of the day to pull some weeds. this morning I am going at it and some dam bee decides I should not be there, normally it does not bother me, but this guy was darting at me, over and over again, like nuts. I am going back to find his nest and take care of things.
