Thanks FC and totally untouched! Blue sky here is a rare thing and my son is a very good amateur photographer, so a good combination of the two. :)

Thanks for the photos @NorthantsGeezer lovely to see so many different angles of its underneath so to speak:biggrin:

Sheal lovely photo taken by your son, wish I could have got one that clear but it was difficult trying to track it properly to get a still photo:smile:

@Soup1 thanks for the you tube video and fantastic to see the crews perspective from inside the cockpit but shame the windscreen glass is so scratched and spoils their view a tad:snork:

We want for a walk up at the old airfield near us Thursday evening and on the way back we saw the Red Arrows heading back from a display I assume and was surprised to see ten of them like there was in that video as I am sure we never see that many when they are doing their displays unless I am thinking of something else:scratch:

It is a shame that some of the wealthy people in this country can't give a few bob to renew this beautiful aircraft as it sure does bring money in when it displays and it is part of our heritage.Lovely also to see that The Flying Scotsman is nearing completion of its refurb...

Thanks JWK for the info didn't realise that it was now based in Doncaster and I am sure you will enjoy the display as much as we did the other day..

Thanks also to everyone that has contributed to this thread in one way or another it has been a pleasure to read through the posts....

Hi @Kandy, they'll take a spare if they're landing before they do a display somewhere in case there's a hitch. 9 is the optimum number for the setting of the formations. 'Red 10' is the team manager who flies the spare and does the commentary at the shows....:blue thumb:

Sadly, I don't think it is about money any more - the old girl has flown 10% more hours than any other Vulcan, with each flight placing huge stresses on the airframe. In short, it is getting risky to keep flying her now, lest something fail quite spectacularly. I suppose it is better to call a halt whilst she is still in one piece and will remain a museum exhibit for many year to come, rather than keep flying and see it all end in a fireball.

I read about The Flying Scotsman the other day, and whilst I am no train spotter, I really want to find out what route it is taking for its maiden run (February I believe), with a view to see if I can't get a trackside vantage point somewhere, just to see it running.

I took this snap of the Flying Scotsman in 1968 with my Instamatic :) I'm no trainspotter either but there was much excitement and a big crowd to watch it go past, a pretty rare event out in the sticks in East Yorkshire. It's a bit grainy but it says "The Scarborough Flyer" on the front:

I remember seeing a steam train in Dumfries station when I was a child (late 70's early 80's) which was fascinating, but I have no idea which one it was.
I'd also love to go back and visit the railway museum in York - again, a childhood visit for me.

I am sounding more like a train spotter by the minute............ :snork:
