Oh what a shame Apple Blossom! I'd leave them and they should sprout new leaves. Mean while I think the local deer need to become venison! :)

I agree... It was just a shock this morning to see them all gone and they were all coming on so well, do you think I should prune them down to the next new shoot as luckly they are still there. Glad to here that the leaves should sprout back, next mission in the garden is to keep the deer out ...

I wouldn't have thought they'd touch roses because of the thorns, we learn something new every day. :) I wonder if they would eat Rugosa's, they are smothered in thorns?

Yes, you could prune them back slightly, it'll help to trigger new growth.

        Hi Apple Blossom,

I agree with Sheal, what i'd do is take them back to either where you see a new shoot coming or if there is no shoot, to where you can see where there was a leaf, as the shoots grow from the angle where the leaf stem joins the main branch.
Also, if they've eaten the top leaves they may also have taken the growing tips as well.

Thank you Sheal :) I think I will do that tomorrow after work.... I was shocked when I moved here as all the donkeys and horses even eat holly through the winter and strip the bushes so I shouldn't be surprised that they have stripped my roses. I know it was deer as I found poops in the area. Mr AB has come up with an idea to stop them visiting the garden... shame really as they a so beautiful but not at the cost of my roses :heehee:
