    hi everyone.

coming late to gardening at the ripe old age of 51.

will be looking to predominantly grow in pots, baskets, tubs etc.

South west facing garden, getting the summer sun from 9:15am approx, and then for most of the day.

Have some rather nice galvanised small wide buckets, 37cm long x 28cm wide x 18cm deep. Apart from herbs, what can I easily grow in something that shallow?

Will no doubt be back with more questions as I get more and more into gardening.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gordie

          Hi Gordie,

          :sign0016:

          Welcome to Gardeners Corner :)

I think I've read your dimensions right and if so, 37 cm isn't really that shallow ( around 15" ).

You should ba able to grow a wide range of perennials, alpines or small shrubs in them.

Oh no... the dreaded "which dimension's which?" problem. :rolleyespink: It's 37cm long x 28cm wide x 18cm deep. Deep is the down dimension... surely? If I'm getting deeper then I'm going down right? Although you could be right Ant, aquariums are measured where depth is the distance away from you (front of tank to back of tank). Bah humbug

Lettuce! I'd grow a few batches of them and have each bucket at a different stage so that you get a continuous supply.

If they are rust resistant galvanised buckets then you could have one as a water feature. Small pump to make a little fountain (just a few inches high), black/white pebbles and water and you're done. You could even have one with small pond plants in.

Let us know what you come up with
