Hi All. Very late in the season at the end of May I purchased 6 Fuchsia White King plugs. The only place that still had them for sale was someone on ebay. The plugs & roots were very good & strong so no complaints there. I pinched them out so late flowering.

To my disappointment they are not White King but even so a lovely large double. I have emailed the seller 3 times complete with a picture. I did say although disappointed they are not White King I am happy with the result and could he since he was the seller identify the fuchsia for me, no replies, I think it is a case of mixed up labelling. Hoping someone can identify the fuchsia so I can label it up for next year. 2 pictures, one just coming out to full bud and one just on going over. The flower is large and is almost 90 mm across the sepals. Thanks white King copy.jpg white king copy 3.jpg

        Hi Trogre,

The one thing you haven't said is if it's a trailer or a bush.

        If it's trailing down I would say it's " Seventh Heaven ".

        If it's a bush I'd go for " Snowfire ".

Hi All. Thanks for your replies, Roger for the names & Silver Surfer for the links. Roger, you have a point, I wrongly presumed because I ordered hanging fuchsias the seller sent me hanging fuchsia but the wrong ones. Looking at the way they are growing I think they are Snowfire Bush.
However on doing some research on google to look at the various pictures they have of the 2 varieties to compare I am now slightly confused and leaning towards Seventh Heaven trailing!!

Again I wrongly presumed that trailing fuchsias do just that, trail, and not grow upright. Reading the descriptions on different sites like T.Morgan ,Bakker Spalding ,Seventh Heaven have heights of 10-12 “ (25-30 cm).Again the Seventh Heaven have much bigger blooms than the bush, up to 4”
They say Seventh Heaven although being trailing can be planted on its own as it is strong enough to cope? I think I will be going for S.Heaven as the type.

It is funny as I was reading Ken Pilkington book on” How To Grow Fuchsias A Practical Guide” which has so they say become known over the years as the “Fuchsia Bible” . He was talking about how he has developed the idea of Multi planting Fuchsia in a pot. He observed how we tend to put various plants of same or different type in a basket or pot but only One fuchsia per pot. He found by planting several of the same type of fuchsia in same pot, he was talking about cuttings and also later on various types of fuchsias in same pot that the fuchsia grew much better than a single plant in pot. He observed better flowers, better roots, and better shape to the fuchsias.

I was thinking of trying this next spring but to a certain extent have done that already with the Seventh Heaven. Six plug plants all in same pot and the plugs are growing much bigger & better than I expected so perhaps there is something in what he was saying. I think the only problem will be when lifting the fuchsias they will have grown as one plant so roots intertwined. I will have to treat them as one BIG plant so pretty heavy and either have to keep in same pot over winter or find a big pot but smaller when repotting for storing.

I have put a couple off pictures below of the (6 plugs) Seventh Heaven (No 1.) in pot; I think these are looking good. In picture No 2 I also have 6 plugs but all different trailing fuchsia, to me this does not work as the trailing fuchsias on the outside look good. The ones in the middle are growing ok but since they cannot trail to show their beauty a lot of the flowers are not visible.

Opinions and criticisms welcome as good way to learn.

              Hiya trogre.

I agree about those two pots. No1 looks well balanced, whereas No2 looks a bit of a mishmash (I hope you don't mind me saying that:redface:) even though it's flowering wonderfully.

@trogre, I wonder if fuchsias are similar to pelargoniums in that they flower more profusely if potbound?

Hi all. Freddy,do not mind your observation or even your criticism. Whatever I do I always welcome what people say and do not take offence because they will see things that I do not or I am looking through blinkers, bring it on. Of course you are correct the second pot although flowering nicely does look a mishmash and the center does not look right, lesson leart for next year.

Val I think from what I have read Fuchsia do well being pot bound like Peleargoniums. Not sure if it is more critical when showing fuchsias as opposed to just our "domestic" fuchsias. I think for shows they have max size pots for each variety, think but again not sure but only 5" (127 mm) for bush fuchsias.I am sure Roger would know as he has and still does show fuchsias.
There is no way on earth I could grow a fuchsia as big as they do in a 5" pot. Again not sure but I think you are looking at about 2 years to go from cutting to show with potting up ,then down, then up!!!! I am happy just to get them to grow and flower.:)

:phew: :) Of course, I was trying to be constructive, and it's only my opinion. I'm fairly boring and lack any imagination, so I generally stick to one variety per container, it's easier that way

I like one variety per container as well Fred . Fuchsias seem to be a huge subject... but very happy with a few of mine... one iffy one.....

Hi All. Back in late spring to my wifes horror I purchased another secondhand ceramic pot,it is huge:snork:. We call it the grandad pot due to its size. Problem was what can we plant in it as time was ticking on for planting this year.
We decided to plant 2 different types of fuchsia and it was a mistake. One has completely swamped the other one,so much so you can only see the smaller one if you bend down.So yes in future one variety to one pot for me also.
Funny but for our hanging baskets I purchased some different type of pelargoniums for this year. They went in middle of basket with Tagetes Golden Gem round the edge, again a mistake as Tagetes have grown huge and you can just see tops of pelargoniums.A bit of re-designing for next year:scratch:
