Spent all day chipping away at cement holding some big rocks in place and glad to say all now out of the pond and put to one side for now

It took me a good 2 hours to empty the pond of all the rain water and slutch at the bottom... A rather smelly and slimy job and lots of creepy crawlies :ouch1: Just hope now it doesn't rain tonight so that the underlay and liner can go down tomorrow

Mr AB is at home tomorrow so between us it should be easy can't be much different than making a bed :heehee:

I'm hoping that I haven't under estimated the depth... Now it's cleaned out it looks deeper! :yikes:

Good evening @Radiation91 If I have under estimated and I need to get a bigger liner is it possible to put one on top of the other?

I just got myself a nice G & T and having a little sit by the now empty pond, the pigeons seem very confused as they come and have a bath and a drink .... They have been strutting around for the last 15 mins wondering what's going on.... Luckily I have a lovely bird bath for them too :phew:

Good work AB  Hold your nose while scooping up sludge :heehee:

I wouldn't even think about trying to put 2 liners in one pond. If the water manages to get between the liners, it's a nightmare! And you'll have those 6 fishies potentially in a drained pond one morning. Would not want to wake up to that! It's just another issue waiting to happen. But ultimately it's your choice. If you feel it will work then go for it :blue thumb:

If it's 14' wide in both directions and 2.6ft deep at it's lowest point then you can get an overestimate quite easily. Just imagine it's a box.

Start at one side of the pond. You need about 1ft "lip" around the rim of the pond. You then go down the inside of the pond 2.6ft, across the bottom 14ft, up the other side 2.6ft and then a 1ft lip on the other side. That's 21.2ft in total. So you are looking at a 22ft square liner. Note that the pond isn't a box, so the liner can be slightly smaller than that. But I, personally, would rather get a 22ft square liner and then trim it slightly if it's too big. It's easier than trying to mess with a tight fitting liner

If you think you've underestimated the depth then get Mr AB to hold a stick in the middle of the pond and you can get your head to the ground and get Mr AB to put his finger at the point on the stick which is the same height as both edges of the pond. :noidea: Remeber that if the pond is 1ft deeper than you predicted then the liner would need to be 2ft bigger. :dbgrtmb:

        Good luck!

What a great job you are doing Apple Blossom. Can't wait to see it finished. Such good and detailed advice from Radiation91. That's what makes this forum so special.

Looks like a grand pond to me, Apple Blossom:thumbsup::snork: Some of the GC gang have small containers for their ponds and look fantastic so you don't have to have a pond the size of the Atlantic to get that sense of happiness, contentment that your very own pond will give you. You're doing a great job.:hapydancsmil::coffee:

Today progress...... I bet you laugh in the middle.....:heehee:

This morning... lifted all the flags and cleared all the 'spotting' as described by Mr AB when he turned up when it was all done :heehee:

                  IMG_1713.JPG

Two pond underlays to put down.... well one was free!! :heehee:

                  IMG_1716.JPG

'Floss white' first.... and a bit more of a tidy up

                  IMG_1721.JPG

Then the 'free' pond underlay second ... not sure how the company did their calculation but had that much it was doubled it up...

                  IMG_1722.JPG

Prepare yourselves......... no laughing................ I think I over estimated the size of the liner I couldn't fit all of it into the photo :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

                  IMG_1724.JPG

Filling up... and after a good trim!!... all going in the right places ...:hapfeet:

                  IMG_1733.JPG

nearly there ..... wet feet pushing the liner in the right direction...:yahoo:

                  IMG_1737.JPG

And hey presto.... its full....so just placed some flags overnight to let things settle.. next job... lay the flags and concrete in...

                  IMG_1739.JPG
so excited today ..... and now its starting to look like a real pond :hapydancsmil:

Have you done this on your own, Apple Blossom. I had the help of my son-in-law to dig up my wild life pond and that took 3 days, followed by another two days on my own finishing it off. Putting in the liner isn't too hard but it is awkward especially if you're doing by yourself.:snork:

I did, ...... just like making a bed :heehee:.....don't forget that it was a concrete base to start with.. if you look at the beginning of the thread, it just needed a lot of work...by me :).... Mr AB turned up at the last minute and put the hose in to fill it up with water :lunapic 130165696578242 5: but then he was in work for best part of the day :).... he met me briefly (lunch break) at the 'World of Water in Romsey' and bought me.... after a lot of convincing... the best filter and pump ever :)
                    I think!
