So far today I've dug over one of the borders in the front garden and planted some Hydrangeas. Took me long enough to plan where three ruddy Hydrangeas are going and I've got three other borders to fill - with lots of plants waiting to go in but I can't make my mind up :gaah:

Until I was rudely awoken and told to get the grass cut pronto :coffee:

nothing great, just weed wacking, pulling weeds, and general tiding around. but it is so hot today, not sure how long I will last out there. might have to get to the pool above.

Lots of deadheading today. The sweetpeas are still flowering really nicely. I'm interested to see just how long I can get them to keep going! They started flowering back in May :)

The garden is a totally building site at the moment which is getting me down because all of the plants are growing and flowering exactly as I'd hoped but I can't actually see or appreciate them :(

Feels like autumn, need to keep reminding myself there's still a good chunk of summer left to go!

That's my garden too, @JackJJW. Total building site!

              ...

I've cleared a ton (feels like) of turf. I cannot wait to do the last few feet and move the greenhouse frame. 4 hours in the garden today plus the weekly housework plus the supermarket shop. Knackered is not a strong enough word! :heehee:

The bonfire burnt down to a big pile of ash and was still smoldering 24 hours later. so I dumped some more stuff on it and it burned nicely. :blue thumb:

All I did yesterday was to tie up the tomatoes, cut off the lower leaves (a barrow full, which I also put on the bonfire as I never put them on the compost heap in case of infection), did some more harvesting - and got bitten to b****ry! :mute:

Yesterday was just pottering, tying in the yellow pear tomatoes, picking tomatoes. We are now up to 1.6kg of outdoor-grown red tomatoes (the yellow pear rarely make it as far as the kitchen to get weighed - downside of growing them on the patio!!) and the plants - gardeners delight, harbinger and tumbling toms - are just getting into their stride.

Also did quite a bit of deadheading. I didn't prune one of my roses properly this spring, so it was rocking slightly in its planting hole, because of the weight of the stems and the poor soil. So the deadheading is also pruning back spent branches right back to the core plant, in the hope that it will be reduced enough to ride through the autumn storms.

Today it looks as if we will be having light rain all day, so looks like I will be doing housework instead. Booo!!

                      Oh, I forgot!

I did loads of pruning of the tortured willow (Salix matsudana). Mrs Shiney and friends will use the branches for flower arranging. The tree is about 30ft high and has been topped a few times. I've just pruned branches within reach by a step ladder.

The willow doesn't grow anywhere near as densely or as twisted as the tortured hazel we have - Corylus avellana but grows much taller.

Today marks the start of 2 weeks well-earned leave:)
Still in bed at 10, leisurely reading through GC before getting up, packing and a nice lunch. Bit of post lunch pruning before the airport and then Toronto, Niagara and Algonquin national park.
It's a shame the garden will probably suffer but there's always next year!

                              No, they're not @Sheal.

We have been harvesting some seed from them, in hope. As heritage tomatoes, they are more likely to come true from seed? They are also growing away from the other tomatoes (tumbling toms) I tried to make sure that the seeds were gathered from the early fruits, which were ready at least 4 weeks before the tts. We first tasted these tomatoes when staying in a friend's house in Brittany. He had bought plants a couple of years before, and managed to grow them from seeds he harvested (even though he was growing them in a poly tunnel with other tomatoes, they came true) so we are hoping to follow his example. More than happy to post some seeds to you?!
