I've developed quite a liking for these as they are so exotic looking. I started with just one, but couldn't resist a couple more!

I prefer the taller ones but bagged a couple of the mini forms as well. Anyone ever grown them from seed?

I'm trying, sowed some last year - they are still only a couple of inches tall - very slow.

This is my second year attempting to grow them from seed. I sowed them in a seed tray indoors, both times they germinated really well, I potted them on and they were fine when I planted them outside. Then suddenly, after a few weeks they just died off. They came up again this spring and exactly the same thing happened. The ones I sowed this year are still in pots. I'm going to grow them into much bigger plants before I plant them out this time. I'm puzzled as to what went wrong with the others. I kept them well watered, but not over-watered, and hardened then off well before planting out.

No need to panic. Alstromeria are tuberous plants - young growth will die off but as long as they come back (as they did this spring) then they are forming healthy clusters of tubes below ground.

I did grow some for a few years.
I think it is in their nature to disappear if they get too dry.

I have one of the species (can't remember which offhand)
It seems to be spreading rapidly and could be becoming a bit invasive.

This happened to us, they were growing like weeds, we couldn't get rid of them, you only need to leave the smallest amount of root in the ground...................and up it pops again!! Very pretty though.
